jcr (1136), Jasper, Indiana, USA Oct 3, 2005 A little light on the body for my taste, but otherwise an enjoyable porter. Aroma of caramel malts with hints of chocolate, nuts. Flavors of the toasted malts, chocolate, caramel with hint of nuts. Slight bitter notes behind all this. PorterPounder (3132), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Oct 3, 2005 Shared this with Aurelius who brought it back from Arizona. Dark ruby red pour, mocha colored head - looks great. Aroma has an odd cooked eggs scent to it. Standard porter flavor, some brief earthiness, coffee, chocolate - it’s all in there - just not real pronounced or sharp. Turns slightly flat near the end. Mouthfeel is a bit watery and overall a tad too sweet for my palate. Aurelius (2643), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Sep 30, 2005 Clear, walnut brown, decent tan head. Watery, flat, sweetish, twangy tartness. Astringency in the finish. Underwhelming. 11026 (1799), Alabama, USA Sep 6, 2005 Bottle from HopsorDie. Opens with the slightest pfft. Pours a very, very deep chestnut colors with the red hues only coming through when well backlit. No head formation to speak of and no lacing. Aroma is fairly roasty with nice light chocolate aroma and some vinous qualities. Medium bodied and devoid of noticeable carbonation on the palate. Roasted grain on the tongue with a bit of sourness and hop bitterness. Really lacks in the carbonation department which brings this down a notch or two. Cornfield (4892), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Sep 2, 2005 This pours a thick dark brown body with the slimmest of tan heads, soon reduced to the slenderest of tan haloes. The aroma is rich and malty with roasted malts and chocolate adding to your nose’s pleasure. Thick and creamy in the mouth, the flavor is slightly lighter than the aroma. The dark, sweet malt, chocolate, and roastiness come through, but not up to the promise made to the nose. Hop bitterness emerges in the finish to balance out the whole drink. Very nice.

jgentgesdo (564), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA Aug 31, 2005 Pours clear dark brown with good tan head. Nose is thin coffee and chocolate flavors. The flavor is nutty, sweet, creamy, but I can’t get much smoky porter character. Thin mouthfeel. A challenge to rate because it would be pretty good for a dark lager or a rather weak stout, but not much for porter. HopsOrDie (687), New Lenox, Illinois, USA Aug 27, 2005 Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Very chocolatey malt aroma with some yeast present. Very light on the tongue and almost a watered down porter taste. The aftertaste leaves you with a good roasted malt flavor. piwodevo (53), chicago, Illinois, USA Aug 23, 2005 from a bottle, two weeks to the day after being bottled. welcome to Chicago, Ska.
This porter pours out thin, a dark rootbeer colored reddish brown. Small, almost nonexistant head. That’s its worst attribute. The aroma was prototype porter: chocolate malts, toasty, with nearly no hop aroma.
The texture was light, a very nice surprise. Not creamy, not heavy, just a refreshing, thin body. Light chocolate malt flavor was the dominant taste, with hints of sweetness and caramel. My drinking partner noted a slight almond flavor somewhere in the taste. Wrapped up with a tiny fruity nose from the yeast, this was a delightful beer. Easy drinking.
