| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Feb 10, 2005 Pours with a frothy light brown head that sits atop a dark, almost black, clear, amber colored beer. The aroma is fruity at first but then finishes with a solid roasted coffee bean note. The fruitiness again reminds me a bit of cherries. The taste is quite light. It is sweet with a lightly astringent roasted note in the finish. This is again a very light and easy drinking beer that seems quite appropriate as a session porter. This beer has notes of toasted biscuits, cherries, burnt raisins, and a hint of vegetal character perhaps. SledgeJr (2960), Omaha, Nebraska, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Feb 10, 2005 In the bottle. Pours a dark dark brown with a heavy beige head. Aroma is an enticing roasted chocolate. Don’t chill this beer! Drink it at room temperature. This is a very flavorful chocolate malt tasting ale. Body is medium, not too thick and not too thin. This might be one of the best balanced porters I’ve had in a while. turbo (1254), Arizona, USA

Color of black leather. Nose of black licorice sticks, and burnt crust. It’s not rich. I’d say thin, bitter and drinkable. Thin blackblack coffee, burnt malt, with enough sweetness to get it down. A good porter. It doesn’t entice, it doesn’t repel. It’s like a hometown chick you went to school with, you’ve seen her around, might as well ask her out.
This went great with a dark glazed ham. I imagine it would cut a chowder really well. And with grilled cheddar/havarti on rye, with dill pickle, mustard, smoked fish....bring me a pitcher of this porter.
It says it was brewed with love. I’d call it a good one night stand.

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Nov 15, 2004 Bottle tasted in a plastic cup in a hotel room: Appearance, well that much head in plastic makes me give it a 4 just because. The nose detects a lot of dark malts, sweet and caramelized with just a touch of smoke and mocha. Some floral and aromatic pipe tobacco qualities. The taste is straight forward porter, semi-sweet and nutty. Light bitters and smoke upon the finish. The feel is thin and fizzy, somewhat chalky. This porter does not bowl me over, just average (unlike it’s big brother Nefarious which was excellent). wilkie (1190), Raleigh, North Carolina, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Nov 13, 2004 Bottle. Small beige head. Dark with a ruby hue. Faint sweetness and roastiness in aroma. Flavor is roasty and has a bittersweet finish. Fairly plain and more than a little tasteless. Boring for a porter.
