3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 bhensonb (7143) - Woodland, California, USA - NOV 17, 2010
Bottle from Liz. Pours black with a fizzy/foamy tan head. Aroma is mostly chocolate. It’s very stongly and frothily carbonated. The flavor is really chocolate - but more towards chocolate soda. The carb is so dominating it interferes with taste. However, I’d say chocolate, smooth burnt malt, and some hop bitter. Tasty, though physically distracting.
2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 hopdog (6943) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 6, 2006
12oz bottle acquired in trade with FlactoAlto (thanks!). Poured a dark brown (I could see through it when held up to a light) with an averaged sized tan head. Aromas of roasted malts and some light chocolate. Tastes of pretty much the same. Really not too much to this one. Thin, bordering on watery and one dimensional. Shame, being a rude boy in my ’prime’ days, I really enjoy all the SKA labels...
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 CaptainCougar (6749) - Boz Scaggsville, Maryland, USA - APR 8, 2005
Pours a transparent dark brown with a thin light tan head, that leaves a fine lacing. Aroma has a light cookie dough and caramel presence with mild roasty malt and milk chocolate. Body starts with a nice sugary maltiness tending toward a slightly drier roasty finish with a touch of lactose. Nicely balanced and enjoyable, with good drinkability. Thanks TChrome!
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 3fourths (6218) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - AUG 13, 2003
Dark brown. Aroma is roasted nuts and vanilla, as well an aroma that if a bit off: like rotten vegatables. Body is medium-to-light, a little thin compared to porters of which I'm a big fan. Some sweet coffee and sugary flavors present. Nice smoke and hop finish.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Cletus (6025) - Connecticut, USA - JAN 8, 2009
Pours dark brown with a minimal white head. Smells of sweet malt and lightly spicy. Tastes earthy and tarte with some chocolatey splashes and a lightly bitter finish.
