opiate (199), Sandy, Utah, USA Dec 3, 2003 A damn good porter. I actually drank it from the bottle which I know is a bit of a beer no no but it was still very good. Nice chocolate aroma and flavor. Porters are a tough style for me to judge...I always want to lump them into the stout category...but this one is very good. Nice and roasty but not too heavy. Crosling (1854), Loveland, Colorado, USA Oct 3, 2004 Exceptional looking for a porter. Nearly pitch black with a nice lace and a nice head.
Aroma is dry and roasty with coffee, chocolate, burnt wood and some fruits.
Roasted malts are dry on the palate. Chocolate, caramel, subtle coffee and lightly hopped. bunyan (5), West Hartford, Connecticut, USA does not count Apr 25, 2002 This is an interesting porter. Like a dark, fruity ESB almost. Molassas and caramel notes linger. Fruityness again. Fresh tasting. A little flat, but tasty. SledgeJr (2957), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Feb 10, 2005 In the bottle. Pours a dark dark brown with a heavy beige head. Aroma is an enticing roasted chocolate. Don’t chill this beer! Drink it at room temperature. This is a very flavorful chocolate malt tasting ale. Body is medium, not too thick and not too thin. This might be one of the best balanced porters I’ve had in a while. Kevin (1917), Colorado, USA Oct 5, 2005 black with a brown edge in the light and a grey head. aroma is easy chocolate aroma with some light toffee. smokey chocolate flavor with something woody. a light bitter in the finish with some more chocolate. a nice easy drinker. turbo (1254), Arizona, USA Jan 31, 2005 Bottle pored black baby! With no head and spotty lacing.

Angelmonster (6), Colorado, USA does not count Nov 4, 2009 As I open this bottle a rush of air comes out, I begin to pour the beer and foam fills up half the glass. It takes about five minutes for the head to go down so I can pour the rest of the glass. Finally I get a nice 3 1/2 finger tan head. Body is an extremely dark brown color, almost black. Head retention and lacing were good
Aroma is of lightly roasted malt. Slight smell of copper also. There is also some faint chocolate and coffee. Hops arent in the nose
Flavor is much better than smell. Smoky, roasted malt comes in first. There is a nice sweetness that is countered by some slightly bitter hops. There is a weird metallic after taste that comes and goes.
Mouth feel is good. Carbonation isnt as much as I thought it would be after the initial pour. Body is light but not watery. Head left some cream through most of the glass
Overall this beer is good. Sessionable, like most porters. Not the best porter ever, or even in Colorado, but still good. Would buy again beerdrinkingking (47), Colorado, USA Mar 12, 2002 tasted like a coffee type of beer weaker than guiness tough
