3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
22oz bomber pours deep mahogany with light mocha head. The aroma offers up some pine hops, earthy hops and lesser amounts of black licorice and roasted malts. The taste has full up pine hops as well as thin ribbons of citrus hops mixing with roasted malts and faint burnt malts. This comes together very nicely. I dig it.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
22oz bottle $7.49. Dark black, tan head, standard appearance for the style, looks good. Smells roasty and a hint of hops, meh. Taste is bitter and then flavors of dark malts that really seem to clash. Iím not sure if I really don;t like this style or if few breweries do it well. I think Stone 11th, SSR, and 15th are all solid black IPAís.

Dark brown pour with a tannish head. Earthy, resiny, and some roastiness. Some citrusy notes added in the taste. I enjoyed it.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Well another black IPA. This one is ok. Dark brown pour, light head. Resiny hops, some toffee, wheat thins, some stone fruits. Flavor is spicy hops, and malt. Nothing spectacular for sure.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20
650 ml. bottle. Pours a medium, lasting beige head, with some lacing, over a clear, dark reddish black (SRM 35) body...nose is pine, citrus, hints of coffee, chocolate....taste is heavy resin, pine, light citrus, hints of coffee. finishing with a lingering moderate bitterness....mouth feel medium, carbonation adds a creamy sensation. This meets the style, which I am beginning to understand, quite well. It is nicely balanced and has both a nice aroma and flavors. BJCP 8/3/13/4/6

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
22oz bottle, no date from Lukas Liquors last week. Hopefully this one wonít be a drain pour. I do see that somehow they managed not to put any beer in the neck of the bottle. . . . short pour bullshit. Deep ruby with a small tan head, low to fair retention. Pine tar and perfumey hop nose, a bit spicy with lots of roast--not really getting any chocolate. Flavor follows suit--pine resin and perfumey hops up front with some roasted malts and a tinge of chocolate sweetness--and then the roast takes over and dries the crap out of everything with the hops and turns burnt and astringent by the bone dry finish, bitterness peaking at a 7. Minimal carbonation with a medium body. Better than the Operation Ivy beer.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours dark brown with a small mocha head. Aroma of light hops, grass and fruit. Hoppy with a hint of roasty malts and chocolate in the back. A bit light on flavor in the middles of the mouth and more hops than in many black IPA. Easy to drink and smooth in the mouth. Not a ton of carbonation. A good black IPA for sure.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
I enjoy these dark IPAs. The aroma is nice and hoppy, but a bit of malt and spice shows through. Taste is the same, hoppy up front but some roundness, and not too dry at the end. Enjoyable and easy drinking.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
22oz bottle. Pours a dark brown black with a big frothy light tan head that retains well and laces the glass.
The aroma is roasted malt, piney hops and a little fruit.
The flavor is sweet chocolate malts with a lot of bitter roast, some leather, and some piney hops. Itís got a lot of bitterness that lingers in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with smooth carbonation.
Overall, one of the best Black IPAs Iíve had. A lot of bitterness, but well balanced. Not too much char like a lot of Black IPAs.

3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Smooth deep porter like malt, with balanced hop kick on end, probably more smooth and creamy than hoppy. Pretty nice beer.
