3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark black. I laughed at the previous rater saying girl scout cookie in a glass. ....but that is exactly what it is....a thin mint.

Girl Scout cookie in a glass ...and you know how bad thin mints suck. What else needs to be said. Mission accomplished.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Vernal Minthe Stout - Ska Brewing
APPEARANCE: Poured a dark coca-cola brown, when it hits the glass darkens up to a nice opaque black. Rough pour produces a towering mocha head that dissipates rather quickly into a nice 1 finger loose froth.
AROMA: Very aggressive mint, herbal aroma hits you off the bat. Sweet chocolate, and light earthy undertones. Almost smells like a week glass of fernet branca. Some slight malts start to reach out towards the end.
TASTE: It follows the nose pretty well but a muted watered down version of the aroma. No hops at all, sweet after dinner chocolate mints, and peppermint hard candy. It overpowers and of the malts I picked up on the nose.
MOUTHFEEL: I feel this is where it really lacks, very light bodied for a stout and almost no roasted malts. Light and thin carbonation. If this beer was on nitro I think it would make all the difference bringing together the flavor profile with a creaminess from the nitro.
OVERALL: I think the idea of a mint stout is a solid one, not sure if it translated to this beer. Not an awful beer just not a great beer in my opinion. I am a sucker for good beer label art and this can is for sure cool looking!

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
12oz can. Powers a black color with a fair tan head that fades to bits of lacing. Aroma of malt, chocolate, vanilla and bit of mint in the background. taste of roasted malt chocolate, bit of herb and mint. mild bitterness with a clean finish. Full body, thick and creamy with a nice touch of mint that enhances instead of overpowering as I initially expected. Nice beer good for a couple.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
The appearance has an opaque very, very dark brown color with a medium light brown head, and the aroma blends spearmint, chocolate, and vanilla. The taste is mildly umami, slightly sweet, and slightly sour, and the palate fuses a medium-light body, soft carbonation, slick texture, and a malty and slightly minty finish.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Ska rarely puts out a beer that disappoints and this one is no exception. Right off the bat it has a mint aroma. Thin, lacy head. Smooth wash down. It has a chocolaty, mint taste. The low ABV means it is not boozy but is still a good beer. This is more a seasonal beer, meant for December or early Spring. But heck even on a cool night it is a good try. I’d like to see an imperial version of this one with more booze but it is still quite refreshing.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 10/20
The nose is filled with mint, chocolate, and vanilla notes. A velvet black pour with a thin espresso head which quickly dissipates providing minimal lacing. The taste is like biting into a Klondike Bar or a Junior Mint only to be followed by a shot of milk chocolate and whiffs of vanilla. Whoa! What’s not to like? Medium body and medium carbonation. Overall, while I really like this beer, I wouldn’t want to drink more than one at a time. Did I mention MINT & CHOCOLATE?

2.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Can from Beers of Europe. Poured black with a dense, tan head. Aroma was undeniably minty; specifically After 8s, there was some more typical roasted malt character behind this. Initial flavours were liquorice and chocolate, but the mint rapidly creeps in and overwhelms everything else. Definite toothpaste, rather than subtle mint leaves. Finish was vanilla, aniseed and mouthwash. I had feared that this wouldn’t sit well with me and I was correct. In fairness, I doubt I would have liked this, even without the mint, as it was just too sweet. However, I think it was the inclusion of spearmint which really did for it.
