COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Slightly hazy dark amber to brown and darker than I had expected. Smelled sweet and nutty and got a little bit of yeastiness in there as well, so much more going on than I’ve smelled in others within the style. Very clean tasting. Again sweet and nutty, a bit of fruitiness to it and roasted goodness. Very small smooth bubbles which make for excellent carbonation and fantastic mouthfeel. Really refreshing and tasty, one I could have many times during the day.

Mørk, klar rødbrun med holdbart cremebrunt skum. Duft af sukker og maltsødme samt mørk malt. Fyldig blød smag i fin balance mellem maltsødme og bitterhed. En fin klassisk bayersk øl.

Drinking from a 500 cl bottle. In the aroma caramel and roast malt. The clear brown beer has a medium off-white head. Medium carbonated.

Flaske. Farven er brun med en beige skumkrone. Aromaen og smagen er nødder, malt og brød, især i smagen er der rugbrød.

Crystal clear, deep copper body with a light tan head. Malty and strong aroma of coffee, caramel and other roasted malty notes, also sweet fruits. Quite strong flavour that is a bit milder, less coffee-ish and more chocolate-centric than the aroma. The fruity contribution is sweet and on the dark dried side. The taste is light to moderate sweet and the finish is surprisingly and pleasantly bitter. Mid-bodied, dry and with a quite soft carbonation. I really like the extra hops in this one.

The smell is sweet of roasted malt and caramel. The color is brown with a quickly disappearing head. Tastes like roasted malts. A bit watery.

Bottle, 50cl. Pours a dark, clear brown with a medium big, short lasting, light brown head. Aroma is very malty with chocolate, barley, ryebread and is pretty weak. Taste is weak as well, but has more caramel malty sweetness. Again the chocolate and is generally pretty sweet. Okay beer.

UPDATED: OCT 27, 2015 Skagen Skawskum is one of those beers that I have a fondness of, more in theory than in reality (historical reasons). Bayer beer was a strong competitor to pilsner/lager in Norway and Denmark up to World War 2, but after that its fortunes dwindled quite a lot (probably the name Bayer not being very fortunate after 1945). My relative contention with this, and other beers of the kind is that I find them too sweet, with less hops than I would like, and a watery quality I don’t really find much use for. I guess for anyone wanting to appreciate a good munchner type malt, it is quite a find, and I personally think Skagens contribution is better than several of the Norwegian ones I drink once in a rare while. But, of course, I think anything from Skagen is fantastic.

Dark brown color with a fine tan head. Medium roasted and malty aroma. Medium sweet flavor with notes of roastd malt, toffe and light hoppy.
