A “Big Bird” by any measure! This years Trumpeter is a huge beer with rich layers of smoke, chocolate, roast, caramel, jet fuel, motor oil and hops. Blowing above 10% abv, this bird should walk not fly.

Bottle courtesy mora2000. Pours a dark brown color with a tan head. Aroma is sweet chocolate and dark heavy malts. Flavor is sweet malts and milk chocolate with roasted notes that fade into a bit of roastyness. Cool.

This poured a darker brown color with a light tan head. Aroma was lots of dark roasted malts, light coffee, and some raw dank hops. Flavor was very roasted and bitter, with bitter raw hops in a swallow a bit different than most impys

Lots going on in this surprisingly tasty impy stout. Plenty of roast with a nice creamed-espresso note. Also some dark chocolate, toffee and a nip of smoke in its edgy finish. Milkshake-like texture was silky and smooth. Weighty on the tongue, too. Not overly sweet (aside from some lactic-like sweetness), thankfully, and it even has a curiously dry aftertaste. Overall, it was a pleasure to drink.

On Tap at Brewery. Pours athick, rich dark brown/black with a thin light brown head. You can taste the strong alcohol content, but it is not a bad taste. Focus is all on the rich roasted malts, I don’t remember anything about hops on this one.

22 oz bottle. 12.14.10. Pours dark black with a creamy soapy espresso colored head. The lacing is excellent as well as the legs. The nose is light roasted dark malts, slight espresso, oats, anise, citrus hops, smoke, and darker fruits. Taste is light roast, light espresso, bitter hops, slight smoke, anise, clove, dark fruits, slightly sweet chocolate, and almost a very slightly sour red wine finish. Mouthfeel is a little thinner (but barely noticeable) than most Impy Stouts I’ve had but it is very creamy which is a plus. Great beer, especially for only $3.99. I’ve heard it cellars really well so I’ll find out in a few years.

22 oz. bottle, pours black with a tan head. Aroma of oats, molasses, vanilla and light espresso. Flavour is a bit fruity, but it could be the combo of vanilla and molasses; there is a noticeable hop profile on the finish. Excellent.

22 oz. bottle from a local beer store. This beer has a thin, nice tan-colored head. The beer is opaque and has a nice black body. Lots of roast and a subtle chocolate aroma. More roast than anything else in the aroma. A touch of smoke rounds the aroma off quite well. Lovely sweet chocolate and roast flavor. The smoke adds a nice touch to the flavor. This has a nice balance to it. Not extraordinarily thick, but it has a the right texture to it. There is a lasting bitterness to this beer. This is a very solid Imperial Stout with some great flavors and aromas.
