3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 tfredvik (630) - Oslo, NORWAY - MAY 11, 2011
UPDATED: MAY 24, 2011 My very first IPA! I’ve heard so many scary stories about these bitter critters that I have been reluctant to try one out, but if the IPA from Skands is representative for this species I’m more than willing to try more! It pours a golden, hazy body with a small, rapidly disappearing white head. A magnificent floral aroma with perfume and pine. The taste is initially light sweet and light bitter, the long-lasting finish is a lovely medium+ bitterness that to my surprise was not too bitter for my delicate taste buds. A nice honey touch in the flavours, in addition to the hoppy notes. Medium body, medium carbonation. I’m already looking forward to my next IPA!
[50 cl bottle, @ 7 Seas restaurant, DFDS Crown of Scandinavia]
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Sigmund (4162) - Tau, NORWAY - APR 22, 2011
500 ml bottle, bought by my wife on the DFDS ferry Oslo - Copenhagen. ABV is 6.3%. Unfiltered and unpasteurised. Brewed with Maris Otter malts, hop varieties unknown. Golden colour, large white head. Aroma of sweetish malts and grassy hops. The medium sweet flavour has strong notes of grassy hops, with a distinct and sharpish bitterness in the finish. Not much complexity here. Drinkable, but this is no match for first class American IPAs - nor for the best (real) English IPAs. Wouldn’t buy again.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 culchiem (1666) - Berlin, GERMANY - DEC 16, 2010
Bottle. Deep gold with a medium head. Citrus fruit and hop aroma. Dry sourness running through the flavour which overpowers the honey background. Bitter finish.
2.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 borresen (15) - Gan, NORWAY - NOV 25, 2010
Bottle 0.5L, Distinct aroma of an IPA with hops, not to fruity but interesting. Pale and clear apperance. The taste is a bit oily which makes the beer a bit hard to drink actually. The bitterness balances the beer´s kind of worty sweetness. All in all a basic not so to interesting IPA, but the oily palate makes it almost undrikable.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Finn (3090) - Tromsø, NORWAY - MAR 18, 2010
Flaske 0,5l på DFDS "Queen of Scandinavia" mellom Oslo og København 18 Feb 10. Aprikosfarget. Uklar. Høyt luftig skum som flater helt ut. Forsiktig aroma med appelsin & aprikos. Smaken er også litt forsiktig men med tydelig sitruspreg. Svakt syrlig bitterhet i ettersmaken. En bra IPA.
