COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Brown with a small off-white head. Aroma is dominated by spice, but has some decent nutty malt behind it. I sense cookie spices and herbs, too dominating, but at least blending nicely together for a unique aroma. Sweetish malty flavour with the herbs and spices mostly entering the aftertaste.

Small beige head. Dark brown body. Dense licorice and anise aroma with spicy herbal notes. Dry-sweetish licorice and anise taste with chocolatey cinnamon notes. Light body. Mild mouthfeel. Dryish chocolate and licorice aftertaste with herbal spicy yeasty notes. Quite nice, but a bit dense and unsubtle with that strong anise taste. I preferred the Brøckhouse version, really. (0.5l draft on Oslo-CPH ferry.)

Bottle. A copy of Brøckhouse brew. Pine cone, anis and alcohol in aroma. Dark redbrown colour with beige head. spicy flavour with plenty of anis, pine cone and pepper and discrete hops. Not the same malt sweetness and soft mouthfeel as in the original Esrum Kloster, but very spicy.

Botle 50 cl. Pours a clear orangey brown with a delicious and creamy off-white head leaving laces. Extreme aroma of star anise. Solid body, roasted malts, caramel and resin but pretty much everything is overpowered by the star anise. No bitterness. Overly spiced. 221009

Bottle. Dark brown with a medium off white head. The aroma is very spicy. Anise and fennel in front with lime or balm notes. Caramel on the sweet side. Lots of spices in the flavour with anise as the dominating part. Also ginger. Good caramel to back it up. If you like spicy beers this one is for you.

Bottled at Copenhagen Beer Festival. Hazy ruby, no head. Arome of aniseed, other herbs and cherries. Sweet and fruity with medium-full body and clean, rounded mouthfeel. Grainy with slight herbal bitterness. Interesting stuff.

Draught at EsBF09. Distinct aniseed aroma. Hazy brown colour. Very small tan head. The flavour is sweet and spicy. There is plenty of aniseed and a little aroma hop which sneaks out after the massive malt and spice and attack.
