The Baron. Pint with chicken dinner. Slightly foggy brass, slim head lacing ornately. Rhubarb and custard-ish aroma; gooseberry, sour apple. Sourish tang of fruit; tangerine and lime hints, apple sauce, gooseberry, biscuit, lingering oat and wheat finish; retronasal saline, rhubarb. Better than reasonable.

Cask conditioned handpump Eastgate Northampton. A golden beer with a whitish head. A fairly sweet floral beer in the mouth. Notes of toffee. The aroma is faintly sulphuric. Tastes good with a decent body. Not bad.

14th March 2012 Shakespeare’s Head Spoons, Holborn. Clear gold beer, little white head. Light dry palate. Okay minerally mild hops. A little juicy citrus - shot down by a bothersome sulphur streak.

Cask conditioned at a Wetherspoons. Gold with white head. Quite a fruity, light beer with a late hoppy, sharp note, some berry notes, redcurrant perhaps then orange zest in the follow through. I quite enjoyed this one.

Cask, William Wygston, Wigston. Hazy gold with a firm cream head. Aromas are biscuit with caramel and stewed apple. Yeasty with floral notes. Flavours are dry biscuit with hints of honey and caramel. Very peppery on the palate with earthy apple and pear. A decent bitter.

Cask at The Crosse Keys, JDW, London. Pours clear gold with a fine, white foam head. Toasted hay on the nose. Medium sweet flavor with notes of dry hay and straw, light nuts and white bread toast. Light in body with fine carbonation. Mild spice in the finish, some bread, straw and light fruits. Pretty basic bitter but not too bad.
