2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20 Jow (778) - New York, USA - SEP 23, 2011
On tap at the Thirsty Monk in Asheville the night before Brewgrass. Honestly one of the worst looking beers i’ve seen. it poured like dirty swamp water. Not much nose at all, and tasted of hops, earth, basement, wood, and slight citrus. Didn’t come together for me at all.

Growler from Green’s. A hazy amber pour with a fluffy off white head that leaves a lot of lacing. Scent is caramel, citrus and pine. Taste is pine, citrus and earthy.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 ChristianBlack (25) - North Carolina, USA - JUL 24, 2011
From notes: Had on draft. It’s a deep amber orange in color. A little darker than what I’m normally used to in IPAs. Lots of head and really good lacing that stuck to the glass all the way down. Lots of citrus and some pine notes. Pretty complex when it came to the smell. But, there is more grapefruity smell over some of the others. Hard to pin what this all might have in it. Really smooth taste -- after you grow accustomed to it. It’s hoppier than most IPAs I’ve had recently. It’s slightly bitter at first, but it really grew on me and smoothed out nicely. The balance of the malts though was what I really liked. The mouthfeel was another really nice feature. I was told that the slightly hazy appearance was because this IPA was unfiltered. It being unfiltered aspect really added to the mouthfeel with a nice carbonation. Overall, this was a very different IPA than what I have had in the past -- and very good. I liked that it was a really good representation of the style while doing something slightly different.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 AllHatDavidson (10) - Davidson, North Carolina, USA - JUL 14, 2011
Had on tap at Brick House Tavern in Davidson. Great aroma. This IPA screams hops. It has a cloudy dark orange appearance with frothy tan head and great lacing. This one screams west coast ipa all day. Medium body with full mouthfeel and dry finish. Overall, I really like this beer. And, the best part on Thursdays I can get it for $2.50
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 OldGrowth (1775) - North Carolina, USA - JAN 29, 2011
Old note. @ Tylers apex. Ok aroma, sweet, citrus, buttered rum. Brownish orange color, good head, minor lace. Bitter flavor. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel, bitter finish. Well, blind folded I’d of guessed a pale ale, but I can see a english style ipa. Nothing to grab my attention. Not bad, but nothing distinguishing either....
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 phaleslu (3177) - Saint Louis, Missouri, USA - DEC 13, 2010
Pint at Tyler’s in Durham. Pours a cloudy amber color with a small, creamy, off-white head that laces the glass. Aroma of citrusy hops, pine, sweet malts, earth, and sugar. Flavor of citrusy and floral hops, grapefruit, pine resin, earth, and caramel malts. Medium-bodied, with a bitter, earthy mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Had a lot of west coast IPA character to it; nice beer.
