COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Maelstrom IPA’s very name and style comes from the Sea. Tall ships on long voyages needed a big beer with a hearty backbone and pounds and pounds of glorious hops. Maelstrom IPA is a brilliant whirlpool of 7 different Northwest hops expertly melded together to create a powerful pint.

A very solid IPA. Nice floral hops on first taste. On tap at Flying saucer in Columbia, SC

On tap at Tyler’s in Durham. Apparently, I just missed my buddy, JCB. Pours hazy deep, bright amber with moderate head. Nose is fruity and piney, but not the pine did not overwhelm. Good citrus and sweet malts also coming through. Big taste. Perfect for an afternoon beer after a morning race.

On tap at Tyler’s, Durham. Hefty, somewhat cloudy amber pour. Got the earthiness and vibrancy of a solid Cali IPA. Nose was extremely piney, with a decent supporting bed of sweet malts. Mouthfeel is fairly light, palate a bit dry, and there’s a touch of heat that you wouldn’t expect with only 7%. Taste is quite nice, dank and bitter, with fewer of the sweet elements coming through than in the nose. But still a more than solid IPA that I’ll definitely try again if I see it.

Draft pint at Tyler’s Tap Room, Durham. Amber-copper with a small lasting head and drippy lace. Assertive nose of resin, citrus and caramel. Flavor is the same great blend. LIght-medium body is smooth, dryish, tingly and easily drinkable.

On tap clear gold with small lasting head. Floral aroma, nicely balanced with bitter finish.

Almost odorless, just a hint of malty aroma. Nice firmly tan color, with minimum head (poured from growler). Taste is bitter and woody, and there is an aftertaste that stays for a while, bitter and strange yet somehow not totally unpleasant. Overall I’m not blown away.

Not much of a nose initially. It’s an amber color with a nice white head. I was most surprised by the taste. Not what I was expecting from an IPA -- in a very good way. It’s very hoppy. It finishes really nice. I couldn’t tell it was 7%. Would have guessed less based on the drinkability. Would highly recommend.

The aroma is great, can’t really determine which of the 7 different hops dominates. The appearance is an amber brown with a frothy head. Great lacing as you drink it. There is definitely a great malt backbone to this beer, but it’s not heavy. Medium body with great finish. Extremely well balance with a hop punch. One of my new favorite beers!

Great aroma. Can’t quite determine which is dominate piney or citrus. But that is probably due to the 7 different hops that are added. It’s an amber brown color that is clear with a frothy head. Great malty taste. Not heavy but a great body. Real nice balance. Even at 7% it was very sessionable. I had several and loved it!

Served from tap into a standard pint. Poured a slight amber color with minimal white head present. Lacing was also minimal throughout. The aroma consisted of sweet malt with light hops. The flavor was malty, with hoppiness, and a hint of wood. However, it did leave a bad after-taste well after swallowing. It was medium on the palate with low carbonation. Overall this is a pretty nicely well-balanced brew with a balance of sweet and bitter.
