Sham (1846), Seattle, Washington, USA May 2, 2006 Black with mahogany edges with a light off white head. Roast and cocoa in the nose. Soapy hops and some notes of wheat. Flavor is roasty and slightly chocolatey with some hints of fruits. Medium body leaning more towards thin rather than robust. Finishes off roasty.
Oakes (6819), Miami Beach, Florida, USA May 10, 2005 Dark amber colour. I mean it’s lighter than the porter by a wide margin. The porter looks like a stout and the stout looks like a porter but the descriptions of the beers match up so what the heck. Slightly smoky aroma. Fairly tart, with some vinous notes. Maybe a bit vegetal, too. An odd duck - could be something of an old-school porter or maybe just a brewer error of some kind. I’m not really sure what it is, I just didn’t care for it much. BückDich (4525), Boise, Idaho, USA May 9, 2005 Sampled draught at the Skye Book & Brew in Dayton, WA Dark mahogany, off-white head, light lacing. Nose of light soy sauce, teriyaki charcoal and red miso coated rye bread. Clean, robust, creamy and a sizable body. A solid stout.
