Glouglouburp (2006), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Nov 20, 2006 (tap at brewpub) Clear yellow body with almost no head. Aroma is faint and that’s not a bad thing since it smells like noodle soup and is overall a bit stinky. Taste is very light with just a basic cereals flavour. Forget about hops, yeast, whatever. I’m sure they were there but I couldn’t fell it. That type of flavourless beer can still aim at being refreshing with a lively carbonation and that wasn’t even the case with a soft carbo. The keyword here is “Light”. MartinT (4377), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Nov 7, 2006 Any first impressions?
-There is no head atop the clear, pale golden, an appearance to appease Coors Light seekers.
-Powdery herbal hops swim amidst salty crackers and faint chicken soup.
-Hay and bland cereal create some sustenance, as herbal hops whisper in the distance.
-The low carbonation exposes the watery nature of this helles.
What if you dig deeper?
-White grape tartness is excavated after some effort.
-Tiny herbal hops are hiding in the back as well.
-This pint must have been very different from that which my pals tasted last year; this helles was bland, lacked substance, and nearly flavorless.
On tap at the brewpub.
tiggmtl (4179), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Nov 24, 2005 Mild, sweet, cereal malt aroma with some herbal hops apparent. Clear golden body is topped by a ring of white head. Cereal malts and herbal hops with some graininess and fair finishing bitterness. Medium-light body with fair carbonation. Sampled on tap at the brewpub with Olivier_MTL and Rastacouere. Rastacouere (5409), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Sep 6, 2005 Neglectable white head tops the light golden hue. Huge doughy toasted bread malts for a beer of this size. Cereals, flowers and various herbal and grassy, lemony hop scents feel distinctively helles like and I truly dig the style these days. Crisp, refreshing lemony, slightly citric palate, light-medium bodied, engaging small bubbles. Great balance, to style, good bitterness and dryness despite the ample maltiness.
