Weak and messy aroma, flat and without character. Good looking, dark and with an average head. The mouthfeel is yeasty and slightly tart...below average, not to repeat.

Pours two fingers of head initially, then it quickly formed to almost four fingers. A dark brown body. The aroma is brown sugar, molasses and anise. The taste is mild at first, roasted malt and licorice sweetness, mild bitter in the middle, finish is long and mildly sweet. The texture is light and soft. Great smelling and nice flavor.

"one round up of this beer termed the finish like sour milk...pretty sad that i can see where he was coming from. It’s got a couple good flavor things going for it, but in end, isn’t very good or pleasant. this was the 5th of 5 beers in the "Chritmas Beers of Belgium" gift pack. I must say, it was a monumental disappointment. All 5 beers were between 2.5-3.4 I think, with this one right in the middle. The best was barely above average, and none are beers I’d get again. This one pours amber with a tan head. sampled 2/09...best by 8/09, so like the others i think it’s been around for a while. more brown sludge on the inner rim. smells and tastes of fruit, slight vegetal notes, and some spice and malt. tastes the same, with slight unpleasant sourness. almost a nice belgian brown, but something is just...off. acidic. a below average beer, belgian or not."

Christmas version of Slaapmutske Bruin with pale beige, sticky, irregular head and deep bronze colour with wine red hue. Aroma and taste dry grainy and malty, chocolatey and nutty, dried fruits, spicy hints of pepper, cloves and nutmeg, dry and roasted bitter finish. A typical Scotch-style Belgian Christmas ale; rather restrained, could have been a bit more lush for me.
