DeadGuyFrank (345), http://westchesterbeer.com, USA May 2, 2008 If Samiclaus had a light version this would be it....nice blend of spice, malt, Belgian yeast, and ripe fruit. Pours dark amber and dark cherry in a goblet. Well done and easy drinking goodness.
BuckeyeSammy (385), New York City, New York, USA Oct 10, 2008 Dark brown with redish hues, darker beige head. Aroma is sweet candy malt. Flavor is licorice, christmas spice, malt, some dry fruit, coffee hints. Ungstrup (11385), Frederiksberg, Denmark Oct 9, 2008 Bottled. A dark red-brown beer with a huge bubbly brown head. The aroma is sweet with notes berries and malt as well as lighter notes of alcohol and spices. The flavor is very sweet with notes of caramel, malt, wood, and over ripe fruits. The finish is dry and a bit spicy. OK, but a bit boring. swoopjones (1179), Buffalo, New York, USA Sep 1, 2008 Bottle. Pours a dark brown with reddish hues. Aroma is caramel sweetness, chocolate, licorice, dried fruits. Taste is very similar to the aroma with some light spiciness added. Good fuller mouthfeel, Pretty good Christmas night cap mabel (1673), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 11, 2008 [1495-20080613] 330mL bottle. Grape raisin malt aroma also hints at wet pasta noodles and brown bananas and peas. Hazy, dark brown body with a medium-lasting creamy light tan head. Grainy toasted banana bread flavour has lots of dry malt. Medium-full body. Interesting night-cap.
(w/ jerc) GarrettB (413), Seattle, Washington, USA Aug 4, 2008 Nothing like Christmas justifies a nightcap after the day’s laboring over what, presents, chocolate binges and a surfeit of pure eggnog? Yeah, that’s rough stuff, so break out the booze before bed! Kerstmutske’s offering is a great brew, wholly appropriate to the festive conditions. The head of this beer, once released from its terrible glass prison, is like a teenager with too many rules - simply out of control. The custard and flan colored mound just grows and grows until it nearly flings itself out of the glass. As soon as this billowing monument to beer begins to descend back into its chalice, an a dry aroma fills the air. Toffee, banana and vanilla make up this enticing cloud, with a rich yeasty bread background and a hint of nutmeg. Absolutely lovely! The taste is up to par with the smell, donning the characteristically Belgian profile of cheese and a savory wood flavor that I’ve come to like in my beers. It’s light, but not faint, and adds a sweet cream flavor in addition to that cheese and wood. Perhaps the flavor isn’t as rich as it could be, but the Kerstmutske Christmas Nightcap still makes for a relatively dry and elegant drink that has the flavors that makes a Belgian beer so coveted in my beer stash.
