4.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a head of foamy fine to medium sized light brown colored bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a no visible carbonation opaque except at the edges dark red brown colored body. The mild aroma was old ale and caramel malt. The mildly vinous mouth feel was tingly at the start and at the finish with a lingering dark malt aftertaste. The nice flavor contained notes of old ale mildly vinous sweet brown malt and caramel. Delicious and one I would certainly buy again.

Dark brown pour with soapy light brown head. Hearty, (winter) fruity aromas: prune marmalade, blackberry marmalade, overripe cherries, oak. Dense aroma. Taste: starts relatively sweet and fruity, winter (dark) fruit. Development is oily, creamy, dark chocolate, whole wheat bread, red wine notes. Medium bodied. Aftertaste is slightly oily, sticky, hint of cherry.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
33mL stubby bottle poured into Corsendonk Christmas globe-chalice glass. I drink this about once a year when it goes on sale after the holidays. Small but tight head. Dark ruby brown body. Aroma is strong and Belgian. Lots of plummy malts, a cherry character of Hathor sugar malts and yeast combo. Some grainy brown buckwheat malts. Flavor is a bit sweet with the cherry character stronger and buckwheat lighter. This disembalance makes it a bit sweet, especially on top of the slightly lighter body for the style. I’d prefer a thicker, slightly less sweet version.
