caesar (5321) - Bunnik/Utrecht, NETHERLANDS - SEP 1, 2007
Slight hazy redbrown color, big frothy off-white head, quite some carbonation. Aroma of caramel malt, some cookie, red fruit, some orange as well, bit spicy. Slight sweet taste, sirupy oranges, bit thin though. Not bad.

Glouglouburp (6104) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - AUG 31, 2007
Cloudy brown-orangey body topped by a long-lasting small beige head. Very yeasty beer, maybe a bit too much so. Cake-ish maltiness back-up the dominant fruity flavours of red apples, fruit salad and berries. Fruitcake attack, impression of spiciness, disappointing short finish. The beer just vanishes away after a hint of sourness. Light woody notes and light sourness bring a pleasant Flemish Sour twist. Floury cake-like body provide a chewy mouthfeel. Some caramel when it warms-up, even distant milk chocolate notes. Shake it a bit and you get some noble hops in the aroma but they are hard to spot in the taste. Not bad at all but left me with an impression of an approximate beer with not specific goal. Kind of here and there with no purpose. Sloppymutske.

330 ml bottle from Bieropholie, served at cellar temp in a tulip glass. Called "Bruin"

App.: Murky reddish-brown with a pretty good off-white head. Aroma: Yeast/dough/funk to start, pleasant hazelnut and dried fruits, some brown sugar and caramel, light musty hops, a cinnamon/clove-like warm spice aroma, maybe even a touch of ginger? Palate: Medium-light body, soft carbonation, a touch of astringency. Flav.: Bread crust, yeast, a bit of toffee, an ambiguous funky fruitiness, a bit of citrus; tastes a feels a little watery; surprising amount of bitterness for a Belgian (still fairly mild), just a hint of tartness and sweetness.

I ate a lot of garlic for dinner, so my palate might be hindered. However, the overall in-the-mouth experience doesn’t live up to the nose. Not bad, but not great either.

fiulijn (15310) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - AUG 11, 2007
Beautiful dark amber color, with a big creamy head. A real winter beer, with soft mouthfeel, both the aroma and flavor are based on the sweet caramel, also with some chestnut honey; correct bitterness. Warming, even if too much monodimensional.

Bottled (as Slaapmutske Bruin). Bronish amber colour with small white head. Aroma is malts, some hops and caramel. Flavour is caramel malts and some slight grassy notes. Neither good nor bad...

JK (4614) - St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA - MAR 19, 2007
UPDATED: FEB 25, 2008 Considerable hops in the aroma, especially for a Belgian ale. Light malt under that. Malt and fermenting fruit in the flavor. Brown in color, no visible sediment, and a thick and heavy palate. Unusual and worth trying.
