3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
On Cask at Charles Dickens Pub. Pours a clear dark amber with lasting white head and lace. Slight malty aromas. Medium body, mellow maltiness with slightly sweet flavor balance, nice woody character, mellow, dry hop finish. A classic nitter?

Strange aroma, slightly musty dried fruit, wood and glue. Flavour has some toffee sweetness and a touch of pear.

Cask at the White Swan, Solihull. Poured a crystal clear medium amber with a big frothy white head and loads of broken lace. The aroma is weak malt. The flavour is medium bitter with a huge malt bitter hop palate. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation. A great English session bitter with a kick.

On cask @ Uxbridge Arms, Chasetown - light amber coloured body with an off-white head and lacing. The aroma is fruity with a hint of pear. Light fruit in the mouth, then a big bash of vanilla ice-cream. Really enjoyed this one.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Amber beer with a reasonable head. The aroma is standardly bitter with some yeastyness. The flavour is bitter with some toffee and roastedness and a fairly yeasty finish. Overall a reasonable but nonetheless standard bitter.

Cask at Birmingham Beer Festival 2012. Typical clear light brown ale. Smells slightly of socks. And I mean worn socks. But despite that not unpleasant. This review isn’t going well... Tastes of, of beer! Yes. Hoppy, inoffensive, drinkable. Doesn’t stand out.

500mL bottle to pint glass
Bread, hay, hops and a touch of sourness on the nose. Light amber colour with a thin off white head. The taste is classic ESB, bitter throughout with a touch of sweetness and a noticeable but pleasant alcohol taste. The mouthfeel is oily and creamy.

3.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Sep 2011: Three pints taken during a ‘Meet the Brewer’ evening at my local Wetherspoons. This amber bodied beer looks and tastes like a good quality British Best Bitter should; the aroma given off is predominately of hops, but malty esters are also in the mix.
The taste is a subtle caramel and toffee blend of malty molasses, a hop undertone of bitterness is there at first, but hides as the malts assert themselves. Leaning towards creamy, but quite getting there: it shouldn’t, it’s a Bitter not a Stout.
Very easy to drink, especially when the brewer is regaling stories of ‘dare doing’ and adventure while you attack his beer.
