I hated this beer. I tried it a second time with a cold and it tasted good. I give this a 2 for being a good beer to drink when you feel sick and can’t smell.

Bottled. So I have now completed the 70 styles and as I’ve never had a cream ale before I didn’t know what to expect. Obviously this isn’t a good version of the style judging by its 17th percentile, and I was suitably unimpressed, although it seems to fit the style nicely. A golden colour with an initial white head but that fades quite swiftly. The aroma is quite grassy and lagerish; a tad sweet and not very inviting. The taste is like a boring English golden ale just with far fewer hop flavours. I sense the lager hops in there but there’s nothing to shout about. Better the masses drink this than crappy lagers, but it is dull.
1.7 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20 Cornfield (5240) - Oak Forest, Illinois, USA - NOV 19, 2005
Bland excuse for a beer, nearly odorless with a slight, sweet, grassy malt taste and a suggestion of hop bitterness in the finish. Nice golden color, but that’s not enough to redeem this sorry brew.
What I drank was a bottle of Sleeman Cream Ale 64, which may or may not be the same beer. Sleeman has yet (on their website) to acknowledge this as one of their Heritage series, aka John Sleeman Presents... in Canada. I’ll move the rating later, if need be.

Refreshing but without any remarkable taste. Bland. Pours clear golden colour.

smooth, pale, best served cold cold. very simple beer, not very flavorful, but then a cream ale isn’t, and that’s why the 3 score.

There is a slight mild aroma. The color is pale golden with a small white head. Flavor is very smooth and the finish is light.
2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 blankboy (4288) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - SEP 29, 2005
Bottle. Pours a clear bubbly light gold with a small diminishing off-white head. Mild and slightly skunky aroma of malt, light hops and something unpleasant that I couldn’t place. Flavour, thank goodness, wasn’t skunky. Creamy and smooth, it starts off mild and bland but ends with a faint hoppy bitter note. There’s nothing bad about it (except the clear bottle) but there’s nothing particularly good about it either. Mediocre at best.
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 HogTownHarry (4809) - Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, CANADA - SEP 19, 2005
UPDATED: JAN 26, 2006 Draught. At Pub Italia, Ottawa. Poured bubbly clear pale yellow with an average creamy draught head. Not much arom here at all - sweet light malt, grains, a touch of stale hops. Taste - sweet stale malt, maybe a squeeze or two of lemon, not much else - finishes sickly sweet with a touch of grain. Palate watery yet creamy. Overall a weak, boring too-sweet ale - nothing much here.
