3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
2008-09-06. Black body with a modest tan head. Sweet malt with undertones of sweetness rapidly gives way to light roast and bitterness, brief coffee ground notes, mocha and coffee linger - a bit roughly for me - slight ashen acidity is just enough to be noticed. (6+) Moderate roast in the aroma is either quite mild or my sniffer is not working hard enough. Very light mocha notes. Average palate is thin for my liking. On tap at the brewpub.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
UPDATED: AUG 1, 2010 Draft at the brewpub, 7/6/05: Dark brown with a decent smoke aroma, but the flavor is sweet malt with little constructive character. So-so. <<Tried again on cask, supposedly aged in Jeremiah Weed barrels? A watery offering, this did at least have a woody alcohol kick -- not enough to change my impression of this place. >>

Had on tap at the brewpub in downtown Anchorage. Dark brown pour. mocha colored head with good lacing. Bittersweet chocolate and coffee aroma. Creamy mouthfeel. Flavor has hints of chocolate, and coffee with a fruity hoppy undertone. Overall, done up nice.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft at brewery: One of my favorites from Sleeping Lady. Still a bit sweet for me, like many others from this brewery, but it wasn’t too bad. Enjoyed the soft roast, dark chocolate and creamed and sugared espresso qualities. Zingy hops in the middle were nice, too.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft: Poured a deep brown with blackened center and reddish orange tint to the edges. The head was off white to tan color. Aroma was nice chocolate and light coffee. Taste is dark chocolate with soft coffee and roasted malts that is robust at first but drinks rather smooth. I’m sure I could see myself drinking this all day and not worrying with the lower abv.
