Bottle, DBF 2004. Hazy red, moderate off white head and low condition. Sweet grain with hints of crystal malt and a faint melanoidin note in the nose. Good malty grain, delicate roasty toastiness and toffee in the mouth. Toffee sweet and gently bitter in the finish.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Jeppe (2631) - Ølbutikken, DENMARK - MAY 4, 2004
Expired 20-09-03. Pours a medium off-white head on a brown/red body. Aroma is mainly of roasted malt with some coffee-like notes in the background. Flavor is bitter and spicy. Notes of malt, spices, coffee, bitter chocolate, hops and herbs. A different but quite nice and flavorfull beer.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 ante (3374) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - AUG 28, 2003
Nice ruby-brown color, avarage white head. Sweet aroma of caramel and chocolate with some burnt notes. Flavour is dry and bready with malty notes of coffee, apples and chocolate. Medium body. Finishes a little bit too sweet with some chemical notes of iron. Also some hoppy notes to keep up balance.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Boystout (1000) - Chisinau, MOLDOVA - AUG 25, 2003
Brown color, medium head and body. Aroma of caramel, weak coffee and something bitter (farmaceutic or herbal). Malty, caramelly, a bit roasty flavors with strong hoppy bitterness (quite unusual). Superb.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 rickgordon (3815) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - AUG 15, 2003
Red/Brown body with a vanishing head. Carmel and roasted malts along with some chocolate in the aroma. Sweet and malty flavor, also a very very mild palate. Quite fine bitterness.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Sigmund (4165) - Tau, NORWAY - JUL 7, 2003
UPDATED: OCT 4, 2006 (500 ml bottle, as Slottskällans Wien). Beautiful dark reddish brown colour, low head. Interesting strong aroma, initially it’s overwhelming horse stable / fresh horse droppings(!), later the caramel, molasses and malts come through. Malty sweetness is well balanced by the hops, pleasant mellow aftertaste. I’ll leave it to the "style police" to discuss if this is Vienna or Munich dunkel - IMO the Swedes have done a reasonably good job with this beer.
2.8 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Ungstrup (26237) - Citizen of the universe, DENMARK - MAY 13, 2003
An amber beer with no head. The aroma is slightly sour and a little sweet - as if it has been brewed on brewing cereal. The flavor is very malty sweet - of an OK maltblend - but not really a special flavor. An OK beer - but nothing compared to other Slottskällans beers.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 larsniclas (4981) - Billdal, SWEDEN - MAY 4, 2003
Red body with a lot of hoparoma and flavour. Really bitter! Touch of dirt, a beer with an attitude.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20 LoveCaissa (873) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - FEB 19, 2003
Nut brown colour with a disappointing head. Caramel, chocolate, and roasted malts in the aroma. Flavour is very pleasant, but a bit too thin/watery. Still, a nice Munich dunkel (despite the name).
3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 Hansen (5447) - Assentoft, DENMARK - JAN 31, 2003
I don't like the aroma (ceralic?), and the head goes of to quickly. But the taste and finish is strong and full of hops. Long lasting dry final.
