Slowianski is a unique mead with an herbal and root aroma. It won a silver medal in the 1993 National Wine and Mead Contest in Tymbark. In 1991, the National Winemaking Council in Lanckorona distinguished it for its quality superior to any other articipating wines and meads. Slowianski is a "trojniak" (triple) containing 30 percent mead and 60 percent water with 12 to 14% vol. alcohol.

750ml pours out a dark amber. Great aroma of sweetness lots of honey, light booze, and some fruit. Taste is more of the honey sweetness, little bitter, herb notes, and a touch of booz. A pretty tasty mead for $16.

My third of the triumverate of Nectar Polska’s "triple" meads, and this, like the others, does not disappoint. Pours still, with a deep, rich amber body supported by strong legs. Requisite honeyed aroma beneath a strong essence of peat and wood. Alcohol is not afraid to show and comes off a little harsh (and let me mention that I rate all meads at cellar-temp or warmer). With a thick palate, this brew coats the mouth with the flavor of woodsy, earthen honey followed by whisky and finishing long and bittersweet. The alcohol here is warming yet restrained enough from getting too hot. Of the three, it seems my favorite is <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/kasztelanski-mió but the numbers are simply too close and I will be forced to purchase each one again for further investigation. ;)

UPDATED: MAR 13, 2006 Wonderful stuff! A thick, rich, hearty mead with a delightful aroma of honey and floral notes. Very thick, and reminiscent of Apis Jadwiga (although Slowianski isn’t quite THAT good). Very thick and unlike almost any U.S. mead I’ve tried in that respect. Very slight, indistinct alcohol bite. Complex with some sourness, too. Quite DARK copper color.

good amber color,no head again of course. The aroma was honey sweet with a slight hint of alcohol coming through as well as some oak and fruit. The flavor was pleasant with a nice honey sweet side some hints of fruit coming on towrds the middle and a mild alcohol bite in the middle to the end, with a decent sweet finish.Over all not bad at all but it could be a bit better.Still decent enough to finish the bottle tonight.

UPDATED: FEB 20, 2004 No head (still). Body is clear medium amber. Aroma is notes of honey, cask wood, leather, alcohol, toffee, sassafrass, flowers, hint of sherry. Flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic. Finish is moderately sweet, lightly acidic. Medium body, watery/syrupy texture, flat carbonation, moderately alcoholic. Great complex aroma, attractive color, and nice flavor balance for a mead. Recommended.
