4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Rich, malty aroma with roast coffee, chocolate, wood, and nuts. Flavor is surprisingly smooth given the big aroma, malty and bittersweet. I didn’t detect a lot of alcohol in the finish, just some nice roast coffee bitterness. Overall a really good beer for a cold fall day. First beer I’ve tried from this brewer, and I will try more.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured from 22 oz. bottle.
Opaque, very dark brown with a 2-finger tan head and excellent lacing.
Aroma of roasted coffee, chocolate, tons of hazelnuts, toast, a hint of Mandarin orange and maybe other very mild hoppy elements.
Taste of chocolate, sweet roasted malt, slightly bitter roasted coffee, hazelnuts , peanut butter cups, molasses, toast and mild citrus.
Medium/full body and medium carbonation.
This is one over-the-top brown ale. There is nothing subtle here except the hops.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Pours a dark brown body with a nice one inch frothy dark brown head that had nice retention. The nose is really nutty and chocolaty with an undercurrent of earthiness and caramel. Minimal hops on the nose, but the malt is so intense it’s probably hard for any to make it past. The flavor is very nutty as well, hard to believe that all this flavor comes from just the malt. A nice mix between the residual sweetness and slightly husky and earthy malt. There’s a light hop bitterness on the back end, but there’s not much. Medium bodied and almost chewy in texture with just a bit too much frothy carbonation. Pretty nice Brown, but I could maybe do with a little less alcohol in here.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20

Bottle shared by hammerslammer. Thanks for sharing this beer with me hammerslammer. Notes of pleasant toasted hazelnuts. Coffee roast. Best slumbrew beer I’ve had. Pretty clean. Nice. Bit too big.

Bottle from Julios. Pours out a very dark brown brew with a deep tan head. Nice roasty aromas. Flavor is deep and malty with lots of layers. Chocolate and roasted nuts. Not overly sweet and very well balanced. Fantastic!

On tap at Cambridge Common 1/12/2013 with Erica. Deep brown or black pour with a beige head that vanishes quickly. Subdued coffee and nuts on the nose. Toasty, spicy palate upfront. Notes of toast, coffee grounds, and some cocoa. Pretty decent.
