Flagraiser IPA is a big, hoppy tribute to the unfurling of the Grand Union flag atop Prospect Hill in Somerville, MA on January 1, 1776. This ale celebrates our passion for hop aroma and flavor balanced with just the right amount of malt. Huge aroma and resin-y flavors from the elusive Galaxy hops are the signature of this beer. Built on a solid base of pale malts, this double IPA makes generous use of hops from Columbus, Crystal and Galaxy with the Galaxy hops taking the lead during ten days of aggressive dry-hopping.

Pours cloudy orage with a thin white head. Some citrus hops and malts on the nose. Too much carbonation. Pine. Bitter. Would like this to be smoother.

Bottle: Pours cloudy light brown with a small, off-white head. Sour/funky orange-peel scent. Taste is bitter peel under an almost sour hop and alcohol bite. Resin, citrus....strongly hopped. Different.

Bottle (courtesy of jtclockwork). Funky tangerine malt and and peel aroma. Hazy golden yellow with moderate head. Sweet over-ripe orange malt and moderately bitter pine/orange peel flavor. Nice.

A copper body with a white head that had good retention but no lace. Caramel malts initially and a nice pine hop profile. A nice mix of floral, citrus and tropical fruits to it. Flavor had a nice caramel sweetness to it. Pine hops were assertive, but not overpowering. Nice hints of tropical fruits and grapefruits. A nice dry finish. Could have been fuller on the palate.

pours clear golden orange with a small white cap, some retention and lacing. citrus, resin, dank fruits - some galaxy melons/mangoes, doughy, fat and spicy caramel, grass, pepper, bitter herbs, booze - lots of it, sweetness - plain sugar, caramel and candy floss. moderate carbonation, medium body - very oily and sticky, borderline too sweet, slightly harsh grassy-citrusy-peppery-piney finish. a tad linear. meh.

Draught @ Noho Brewfest: This one pours a fairly clear, darker golden color. There was a good, dense off white head on it. There was a BIG pine hop nose. The taste was good. It wasn’t as bitter as the nose would make you think, but still has a good bite to it. Some malts in the background. Nice.

Bottle. Pours orange gold with white head. Nose and taste of perfume, sticky caramel malt, toasted grain, orange candy and hop resin. Lighter medium body. Dry grain finish.

Backlog bottle thanks to so many good ratebeerians. The look is clear, yellow in color, with a white head. The smell is skunky, fruits, and leaves. The taste is citrus, bitterness, hops, and ok.

Bottled 10/2011 A: rustic copper with a central cap and confluent ring of light peanut. Hazy. Fleeting spot lace. Dark and murky for the style. S: grapefruit and resin. Some earthy and spicy hops as well. Malt is sweet, caramel and stronger than I anticipated. T: Bitter, moreso than I had expected after the nose. Nice herbal hops. There is a slight fruitiness somewhere in here - faintly like fruity pebbles. Interesting. Hints of wood. M: Medium on full bodied for the style with moderate/reserved carbonation with a wet finish. O: this beer is eccentric, pulling from different angles. Sometimes bitter, sometimes sweet, somewhat plain, somewhat intriguing. Serving type: bottle 12-18-2011

12 oz bottle. Pour is an orangish gold, a bit hazy. A white head which leaves a good amount of lacing. Smell is citrusy with pine and skunky hops. Taste is sharp with hops, bitter orange and lemon peel. Has kind of a hay or grass thing going on that is prevalent in the nose as well. Tastes a bit off. Not terrible but a flavor and smell that is hard to identify. Not in love, but it's okay. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
