Flagraiser IPA is a big, hoppy tribute to the unfurling of the Grand Union flag atop Prospect Hill in Somerville, MA on January 1, 1776. This ale celebrates our passion for hop aroma and flavor balanced with just the right amount of malt. Huge aroma and resin-y flavors from the elusive Galaxy hops are the signature of this beer. Built on a solid base of pale malts, this double IPA makes generous use of hops from Columbus, Crystal and Galaxy with the Galaxy hops taking the lead during ten days of aggressive dry-hopping.

From the bottle. Copper color, slight haze, off white head and minimal lacing. Light pine grass hop aroma with floral & citrus scents. Sweeter initial taste than anticipated, but moves to bitter side immediately with burnt piney hop resin, leaves, leather and some grass. Lingering bitterness is just okay.

Orangy golden, slightly cloudy, small off white head. Aroma citrus hops, hay and grass, some sweet malts. Medium to medium-light body. Grassy herbal hops, lightly bitter, some malty background. A competent if unmemorable IPA.

A lightly hazed golden amber Ipa with a thin frothy light mocha head. In aroma, nice fruity caramel malt with loads of floral and resinous hops, light sulfur notes, a bit funky. In mouth, a sweet caramel malt with floral and resinous hops, light oxidation, attenuated citrus, still solid after a few years.

Slumbrew Flagraiser IPA has a very thick, off-white head, an opaque, bubbly, orange appearance, with many noticeable tan particles roiling about, and a very heavy lace curtain left on the glass. The aroma is of white bread, sweetness, and citrus, and the flavor is of those elements, with grapefruit and increasing bitterness as the sip settles out. Mouthfeel is medium and soft, and Slumbrew Flagraiser IPA finishes mostly dry, rather drinkable, and not the least bit alcohilic. RJT

Bottle. Pours gold with an off white head. Sweet toffee malts, earthy hops, and light hints of pine. Not that good.

Bottle: Pours cloudy light brown with a small, off-white head. Sour/funky orange-peel scent. Taste is bitter peel under an almost sour hop and alcohol bite. Resin, citrus....strongly hopped. Different.

Bottle (courtesy of jtclockwork). Funky tangerine malt and and peel aroma. Hazy golden yellow with moderate head. Sweet over-ripe orange malt and moderately bitter pine/orange peel flavor. Nice.

A copper body with a white head that had good retention but no lace. Caramel malts initially and a nice pine hop profile. A nice mix of floral, citrus and tropical fruits to it. Flavor had a nice caramel sweetness to it. Pine hops were assertive, but not overpowering. Nice hints of tropical fruits and grapefruits. A nice dry finish. Could have been fuller on the palate.

pours clear golden orange with a small white cap, some retention and lacing. citrus, resin, dank fruits - some galaxy melons/mangoes, doughy, fat and spicy caramel, grass, pepper, bitter herbs, booze - lots of it, sweetness - plain sugar, caramel and candy floss. moderate carbonation, medium body - very oily and sticky, borderline too sweet, slightly harsh grassy-citrusy-peppery-piney finish. a tad linear. meh.

Draught @ Noho Brewfest: This one pours a fairly clear, darker golden color. There was a good, dense off white head on it. There was a BIG pine hop nose. The taste was good. It wasn’t as bitter as the nose would make you think, but still has a good bite to it. Some malts in the background. Nice.
