3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 13/20 Narnad (1340) - Wonder Lake, Illinois, USA - MAY 6, 2013
Pours a deep brown with ruby highlights and a very tall, lightly ruby-tan, creamy head. Aroma Lots of malt in the nose. Light chocolate, lots of toasted malt, light bitter roasted malt at the end. Flavor has a lot of chocolate early but then there is a slight conflict of flavor in the middle where they chocolate and toasted malt don’t play well. The finish on the brew is slightly nutty and malty but overall kinda bland. Body is creamy, mild carbonation and a strong amount of lacing. Overall an okay brew but the flavor is a bit muddled.

Coffee, dark roast aroma, mild fig. Black, thin tan head, good lacing. Coffee and sweet apple core. Nondescript figs are also present. Rather fruity porter, but the coffee notes balance it out fairly well.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Elwood (2493) - Leesburg, Virginia, USA - MAR 28, 2013
Serving: 22 oz. bottle. It pours a very dark brown with a large, dark brown head. The nose is very roasty, more stout than porter, with strong earth notes. A brash roasted malt hits the tongue and doesn’t let go. Slight burnt notes, minerals, earth, and some coffee come along. Full bodied and denser than I associate with the style. It’s a solid brew for sure.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Darwenus (386) - Virginia, USA - MAR 25, 2013
I had this on tap at Blue 5 in Roanoke, VA. It’s dark brown with little head at all, and the aroma and taste are strong, rich chocolate. It isn’t at all complex, but it’s really tasty and went well with a bleu cheese burger.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 jgb9348 (3964) - Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA - MAR 23, 2013
Deep dark brown coloured body with a one centimetre tall light brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, light chocolate, cereal, bread and a hint of nuts. Medium-bodied; Strong roasty flavour with a lot of chocolate and coffee notes, a hint of spice, caramel, oatmeal and a good dose of bitterness on the end. Aftertaste shows a relatively good complexity with a pleasant sweetness, some cocoa bitterness, a little pit fruit flavours and an alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice beer that I wasn’t expecting so much from, but turned out to be well worth the drink - however, it’s price wasn’t so great. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased from Arrowine in Arlington, Virginia on 05-January-2013 for US$8.99 sampled at home in Washington on 23-March-2013.

Bottle. Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate and light vanilla. Roasted malt and chocolate flavors with light coffee and light nuts. Similar finish with a nice bitterness.
4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 hockeybeerguy (212) - Portland, Maine, USA - JAN 7, 2013
It pours a dark black and gives a nice thick half inch foamy off-white head leaving some nice foamy lacing in rings. The smell has chocolate and malts up front coming forth roasty, smokey and robust. The taste is sweet with the chocolate and malts. The palate is smooth and creamy, thick and heavy. Overall, wow, what a great American Porter on a cold winter’s night that I would have again.

Dark almost black pour with very little head. Malts and raisins. Lots and lots of chocolate. Kind of like chocolate covered raisins. Low carbonation. Rather pleasant.

Dark brown pour with a thin beige head.
Aroma is chocolate, light coffee ground, and some burnt toast. Creamy, if mild, mouthfeel. Flavor is fudgy chocolate upfront, earth, mild coffee roast, and some sweet milk chocolate on the finish. Nice, not awe inspiring, but nice.
