Rich black porter with a unique blend of chocolate, coffee, roasted and nutty flavors. Brewed with cocoa powder and conditioned with cacao nibs from Taza Chocolate. Bold flavors from the cacao nibs and black malts are balanced with a special blend of pale malts, oats and wheat to produce a lush and lingering mouthfeel.

Bottle. Pours black with a small tan head. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate and light vanilla. Roasted malt and chocolate flavors with light coffee and light nuts. Similar finish with a nice bitterness.

It pours a dark black and gives a nice thick half inch foamy off-white head leaving some nice foamy lacing in rings. The smell has chocolate and malts up front coming forth roasty, smokey and robust. The taste is sweet with the chocolate and malts. The palate is smooth and creamy, thick and heavy. Overall, wow, what a great American Porter on a cold winter’s night that I would have again.

Dark almost black pour with very little head. Malts and raisins. Lots and lots of chocolate. Kind of like chocolate covered raisins. Low carbonation. Rather pleasant.

Dark brown pour with a thin beige head. Aroma is chocolate, light coffee ground, and some burnt toast. Creamy, if mild, mouthfeel. Flavor is fudgy chocolate upfront, earth, mild coffee roast, and some sweet milk chocolate on the finish. Nice, not awe inspiring, but nice.

Bottle on Amtrak Train 27 - The Empire Builder ( from Binny’s South Loop) - 05/11/12. Mid black with a big frothy tan head, good lacing ensues. Nose of cocoa, roast malt, light plastic. Tastes of roast malts, chocolate pudding, touch of leather. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

On tap at Lunar Brerwing Co., and shaker served, showing a black/brown color, a decent amount of brownish tan head foam that turned cakey/moussy before slowly diminishing, and spots & streaks of lacing. The nose was roasty, malty, some sweetness, chocolate, with hints of caramel & toffee, but also a touch of metallic scent. Medium bodied and softly carbonated, hop bitterness was moderate, but a lingering, acidic tartness/sourness greatly detracted from the flavor enough that I chose not to finish the pint. A rare occurrence for me!

Had served at Leary’s tasting. Pours an unfiltered dark brown with a biege ring circuling the rim. Smells of roasted malts, lavender, milk chocolate and yeast. Getting a lot of artificial chocolate, spent yeast, liquorice and cashews. Interesting concept and one of the more balanced beers but not something I’d stop myself to buy.

Courtesy of Barth- thanks bro. Dark brown pour with a frothy beige head. Looks really nice. Amazing lacing. Big chocolate brownie and cocoa nib in the nose with hints of oxidized bready malt, and roast. The flavor holds caramel, milk chocolate, and coffee grounds. Tastes a bit stale and mildly underwhelming. Bready and cereal. Medium body with a very creamy texture. Not enough roasty dryness for my liking- finishes off a tad sweet.
