2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle pour @ the 21st Richmond Gathering. Gusher. Unnervingly thick, oily pour. Gold with a small white head. Nose of pepper and banana. Spicy rye toast. Flavor of celery root and banana. Honeyed grain. Very strange. Medium body, prickly carbonation. Not great.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
750 cc from Pottstown location. Pours turbid dark straw toward orange with 1-finger white head and spare carbonation. Nose is big rye malt notes, hopcitrus, bready, funky, spicy. Tastes incredible: a nice medley of rye malt, spicy floral funky notes, fruity notes, white pepper, and a juicy spicy finish. This one is great., and comes off like a Belgian Tripel with added rye. Wonderful.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle from the NHC
Pours a relatively clear dark straw color with a huge fluffy white head that persists forever. The aroma is quite spicy with the tart rye malt mixing it up with the peppery yeast esters. Light sweet honey malts provide a hint of backbone with a few fleeting whiffs of orange and citrus fruits. The flavor is lightly sweet honey and sugary malts up front with a bit of and orange and lemon zest thing going on. Peppered rye bread comes in next and dominates the palette before a long lingering sweet and tart finish. Medium body with a moderate to high level of carbonation and a bubbly mouthfeel. Pretty nice saison, I actually think its improved a bit since I had it at the NHC, the rye was quite assertive then and now it seems to made mingled quite nicely.
