The official beer of the Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta held annually on the Schuylkill River each May. A perfect balance of North American malt and hops create a supremely drinkable pale ale with a vibrant, citrus character. Perfect for sippin’ on the banks of the Schuylkill while you enjoy the races. Look for the Sly Fox beer tent at the Regatta on May 9 & 10, and for Dad Vail Pale Ale on tap at your favorite Philly area bars in the weeks leading up to the event.

Unfortunately there’s nothing too exciting about this APA. I tasted a pint of it on draft in Pottstown. The beer poured a light copper color with a small off-white, lacing head. I tasted a bit too much malt and not enough hop for my liking in a pale ale. There was certainly a decent amount of grassy and dry hop flavor, but just not enough.

Pours amber orange with a one finger off white head with pretty nice lacing. Aroma is pine, citrus, bready malts, caramel sweet malts, and some light tropical fruits (mainly mango). Taste is pretty similar to the aroma. Has a medium body with a slightly creamy mouthfeel and a semi bitter, slightly dry, medium finish. Overall, a pretty tasty, easy drinking, well balanced APA.

Golden-orange body, medium sized white head, spotty lacing. Light citrus and florals. Straightforward and pleasant. Medium to light bodied, semi-dry throughout, moderate carbonation, mild bitterness.

Draft at Moriartys. Clear gold pour with a nice fizzy foamy white head. Looks nice but both the aroma and taste feel a bit off. Sweet bready caramel malts. Hop notes are there but feel muted. Disappointed.

Tap pour from Sly Fox tent @ Dad Vail. Clear dark pour with decent white head. Good citrus taste with very mild aftertaste. Given the venue, I’ll give a pass on limited hops. Pleasant drink. Kudos to Sly Fox for supporting a great event! (No points given for this in rating.)

Draft. Copper pour with off-white head. Citric, tropical, and hoppy nose. Tastes hoppy, with notes of tangerine, mango, caramel malt, and a smooth finish.

Draft at the brewpub. Pours clear orange with a small white head. The aroma has a light orange juice, floral notes. The taste has a light bitterness, a bit off.

[Cask] Amber color with a medium sized, off white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of citrus, orange, caramel, and light toast. Taste of citrus, pine, orange, and light grapefruit in the finish. I’d like to try a SF pale ale with little to no speciality malts...

Firkin at Yards Real Ale. Pours a lightly hazy copper with thin off-white head. Aroma of caramel and grapefruit. Medium body. Sweet malty caramel with citrusy hops. Moderate bitterness.
