Grisette is a Belgian style ale which was originally brewed in the Hainaut province to be the beer of the miners in the area, just as Saison was the beer of the farmers. It was lighter than Saison and frequently contained wheat as well as barley malt (as does the Sly Fox version). The name is derived from the French word for "gray," referring to both the drab factory frocks worn by the young women (the grisettes) who doled out pints as the men exited from the mines, and also the color of the cobblestone rock being mined.

Draft @ Phoenixville location on 15 Oct 2012 bartender gave me a 10 oz. pour. For me this was like a saison/ Wit Bier hybrid. Color was a bright hazy yellow. Not much in the way of head. Nose is phenol Belgian yeast with a good amount of wheat. Pale malts and yeast are the main players here. Light wheat with a bit of spicy peppery character makes me think of a Wit. Fizzy, spritzy carbonation. Totally refreshing and if I lived in Eastern PA area, I would be a regular at the tasting room or Eatery. Well crafted.

Pours a hazy pale yellow with no head whatsoever. Aroma has nice light orange and mils spice...coriander or clove. Flavor has orange, honey, coriander, and wheat...tastes a bit like juiceyfruit gum. Mouthfeel is medium and the finish is juiceyfruit gum...dries.

Tap @ Blind Tiger. Pours hazy gold with a medium white head. The nose is brioche bread, salt, pepper and orchard fruits. Hints of tropical pineapple. The taste is saison yeast, banana, wheat, cobweb. Mineral chalkiness on the long finish. Light body, easy to drink on a very hot summer day. Soft carbonation. Nice.

The aroma is a fruity, banana, peppery combination. The appearance is a veery hazy light orange, white head. The flavor is spicy, peppery up front, banana, light tropical fruit. The finish is spicy, peppery, earthy, resin, lingering. Medium in body, a little thicker maybe, slightly syrupy. Nicely done.

UPDATED: JUL 6, 2013 On tap, pours a very cloudy straw yellow gold color with off white creamy head, good lacing. Aromas of bannana, spice, coriander, yeast. Taste is crisp coriander belgian notes, lemons, grains, and other light spice notes. Pretty sessionable and very refreshing. This style of beer isn’t my favorite but I will def search this one out again. Excellent. Re rate in can, not as good but still a nice grisette.

best feature: incredibly fine carbonation, thus, superb mouthfeel. flavour is a bit like fleur de lehigh with additional spices, but subtle, not cloying. tastes 'boozier' than its ABV. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Hazy golden with a white head. Aroma is citrus, herbal, sweet, yeast spice. Medium, filling body. Flavor is nice and light but with decent complexity. Sweet malts, citrus fruit, yeast, herbal spice. Finish is soft spice and citrus. A real winner
