Bronze Medal, GABF 2002. A German style Golden Lager beer brewed with imported German Pils and Carmel malt and Saaz and Hallertauer hops. Golden in color and medium-bodied with a gentle, dry finish. (NOTE: This beer was formerly called French Creek Helles.)

This was poured into a pilsener glass. The appearance was a slightly hazy golden yellow color with a decent transparency about it. Streams of carbonation rise at a moderate pace to fill a sly rapidly dissipating head. Leaves some light lacing roaming here and there. The smell starts with a sweet wheat and runs into a light little kick of spice as it warms. Semi-grassy but crisp and refreshing breadiness. The taste grabs the sweet wheat and combines it nicely into the spice, adds a little breadiness and blends into the aftertaste. There’s no finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light on the body with a purely wonderful sessionability about it. Carbonation is light and gentle but still good for the style and for me. Overall, as a Munich Helles lager, there’s nothing wrong with it. Its good and I would definitely have it again.

Can - from sampler pack. Very light, crystal clear. Clean, slightly hoppy aroma. Very good - good balance of malt and hops. Tastes like a German beer.

Can @ home. Lightly hazy pale yellow color, medium sized white head. Smell and taste lightly malts, lightly wheat, a hint of yeast, lightly hayish and a soft hint of bitter in the finish. Soft carbonation, soft mouthfeel, average body. Easy drinkable low ABV beer. Not bad.

Can. Semi hazy golden beer with a large white head. Aroma is malty with notes of citrus, herbs, hay and grass. Flavor is spicy with notes of hay, citrus, grass and bread. Well balanced, perhaps a bit too sweet.

Fancy can from the One Trick Pony, Moseley. Rather a stable, solid, quite plain, sticky, clean Lager. Nothing out of the ordinary, but quite fine.

355 ml can from Beer Up. Pale gold, slightly hazy, with an average, creamy and moderately persistent bright white head. Lots of bubbles streaming up. Typical helles aroma, definitely sweet, slightly nutty, some dark bread/biscuit notes, as well as herbal hops. The taste pretty much follow suite: sweet upfront, mild herbal and malty bitterness, slightly buttery/soapy taste, a hint of yellow fruits too. Solid dryness and excellent drinkability. Average carbonation, medium body, creamy texture. May not be very fresh, but it’s still OK.
