michael-pollack (1378), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 1, 2007 750ml Bottle: Aroma is medium to heavily sweet. Smells of spices, alcohol, candy sugar, yeast, clove, and banana. Poured golden (apple juice) in color with a big, rocky, foamy, off-white head that lasted throughout. Small lacing. Clear. Sparkling. Many tiny floating particles. Flavor is medium sweet. Tastes of cloves, alcohol, malt, yeast, grass, and cardboard. Medium body. Thin texture. Soft carbonation. Sweet malty finish.
beerbill (1248), Laurel, New York, USA Aug 9, 2008 Bottle sampled at NFB&WF ’08 at Martha Clara Vineyards. Pours a hazy yellow gold, more yellow than gold. Pleasant aroma of yeast, malt and sugar with a few vapors of alcohol as well. The flavor is nice with yeast, malt, candi sugar, and banana all well represented. A bit fizzy on the palate. The alcohol is noticeable, but is not a distraction. Good one. hellbilly (852), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA Aug 4, 2008 someone left this in my fridge... methinks it was the bockyhorseys... pours a hazy orange/brown iced tea color with an aggressive white head. the aroma is quite sweet... sugary golden raisins, very ripe pears, floral, spicy, yeasty and some alcohol burn. painfully sweet palate... arrrgh! lots of floral apple blossoms, orange and ripe pears without their skin. spicy-ish finish that never dries out. medium to full body from the residuals. too sweet without a whole lot of complexity and rather difficult to finish the second glass. tagz (307), USA Jul 27, 2008 bottle. slightly hazy golden with white fluffy head. nice spicy, fruity aroma. i had high hopes until i took a taste. cloyingly sweet. couldn’t make it through more than a few sips. there are some good belgian flavors (pear) in there but the palate is so weighed down by residual sugars that it is undrinkable. it hurt to pour out a full 750 ml bottle, but i gave it several attempts to redeem itself. drinking the whole thing would have made me sick. jcwattsrugger (3862), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Jun 14, 2008 750ml bottle-pours rich retaining off white head and gold color. Aroma is medium/light malt-husky, caramel, hay/floral/earthy, light fruit-apricot. Taste follows with some sweetness but the medicinal/metallic/herbal/pepper overpower and detract from a nice nose. OK carbonation. Occasional. 3.0 OK at cellar temperature, mellows nicely. The medicinal disappears and the metallic and herbal aren’t dominant. The sweet malt comes out a bit more as does a bit of alcohol. Occasional. Oakes (6853), Miami Beach, Florida, USA May 26, 2008 Golden colour with big bubbles. Spicy, alcoholic, phenolic nose. Quite sweet - boooo! - with lots of apple, pear, phenol and plastic. Not terribly clean and tough to drink in any quantity.
