3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Pours a clear black body under a one finger fizzy brown head that faded to a thin ring. The nose is very roasty with lots of coffee, some moderate alcohol, and some burnt malt notes. The flavor is very burnt and roasty with a heavy burnt coffee finish. Fairly well hidden alcohol, but there’s a bit of heat on the finish. Medium bodied with a little too much fizzy active carbonation. Decent beer, but nothing that stands out especially.

Cork bomber to snifter. Pours an opaque dark brown / black with a dense tan head that remains the whole time. Good lacing. Deep rich scents of fruit, and coffee, and roasted malts. Not much hop character, however it does have a good bitter twinge. The 10%abv is blended well. Lots of fruit notes, especially prune, and dates.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Corked and caged bottle. Pours a deep dark brown black with a medium brown head. Huge head. Over carbed so I’m a bit worried from the start. Taste was overly dry but not sour. Possibly infected by Brett. Not terrible but pretty much flavorless.

I’m pretty stoked with this Sly Fox. It’s a little too roasty at first...and it’s boozy. But as it warms, it becomes pretty smooth with a touch of syrup. Definitely like.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: APR 5, 2015 Lovely in color and foams well. Had chilled so no aroma at first but may have come later, but my nose was tainted by then. Not overwhelming in flavor but true to style. Rich tobacco hints hit the palate. I would get again. Bottle

This beer has a beautiful thick, foamy head with great lacing, sitting atop an oil slick looking beer. Very rich and warming although the flavors are not as well integrated as in other RIS. Still, a very good beer.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: AUG 16, 2014 Sampled from a 750 ml corked brown bottle this beer poured thick, black and a bit oily with an enormous foamy brown head that lingered forever and left great lacing. The aroma was chocolate, marzipan, bread dough, fruity hops and licorice. The flavor was bitter with strong fruity and floral hops, anise, cherry and cocoa. Long finish. Moderately full bodied. Solid.
