tomthompson89 (1100), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 8, 2008 nice orange amber color, decent frothy head, nose is citrus and pine hops, some sweeter malt in there too i think. really bitter hops, seems english style hops to mehops r almost overpowering. ok but not my favorite style of hops whatever it is and lacks balance.
CapnCascade (38), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Aug 11, 2008 Pours clear copper-orange, light white head with some retention. Slightly herbal aroma also has caramel and floral notes. Flavor is sweet malt with a big hop spiciness that lingers for a long, peppery finish. Warm, rich body with good carbo. Certainly a fine DIPA if not necessarily my favorite of the lot. Ughsmash (2958), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Aug 10, 2008 Bomber. Poured translucent medium amber with a tall, well-retained, creamy cap of beige head. The aroma had bready and lighter grapefruit notes supporting a bizarre (and not entirely complimentary) array of hops.. spicy floral and juicy citrus (led by pineapple) for the most part... sticky, resiny notes amplified by alcohol on the back of the nose. The flavor had thick, non-descript pale malts and a little grapefruit meat sweetness at the core with pine sap and citrus bitterness paired with peppery alcohol at the edges.. finished strong with warm, bitter impression.. drinkable, but not all that enjoyable. Resiny again on the palate with a thicker body.. bitterness was moderate and the finish was warm, long and tacky.. OK feel, but not great. JCB (949), Durham, North Carolina, USA Aug 8, 2008 22oz from Canals. Decent looking pour, a sort of standard amber to orange. Head and retention are above average, and the mouthfeel is nice and thick. Very bready, sweet aroma makes me think this one has some age on it (one never knows when buying online I guess). And certainly it tastes like an 8-10 month old brew does, with some hops still in there but mostly malt forward at this point. Slightly grassy and bitter but mostly a sweeter brew right now. Okay. thickfreakness (52), Austin, Texas, USA Jul 28, 2008 Pours a clear amber color with a small amount of off white head that leaves a little lacing. Smell is very caramel like malt forward balanced with some mostly orange citrus hops. A little dusty as well. Taste is similar with a slight more hoppiness than the nose led me to believe and an odd staleness. An ok IIPA. blutt59 (620), Dallas, Texas, USA Jul 26, 2008 bottle, grapefruit orange color with a hoppy citrus nose and taste, a little pine and hops on the finish
