| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Nov 1, 2007 Can. Head is initially large, frothy, white, mostly lasting. Body is hazy light to medium yellow. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain), moderately to heavily hoppy (flowers, herbs), with notes of lemon and orange peel, honey. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation. The 3.4 average here is ridiculous, but not surprising. I had it at GABF for the first time this year and from the first whiff I knew I had to have more. I traded and got six cans. I’m going to be out of cans before a week passes (this is my second already). This is easily one of the best German-style pilsners that I’ve ever had. And yet it’s very authentic, not an American revision. Incredibly clean, vibrant, wonderfully balanced, great appearance. There isn’t a single thing about it that’s not to love. Unless you don’t like pilsners, of course. The quality and authenticity of some of these Sly Fox brews (e.g., Saison Vos) is just jaw-dropping. kyzr (1132), Belgrade, Montana, USA

Very nice pils nose to it with a touch of sweetness. Flavor is actually rather hoppy and crisp. Very well balanced with malt and a mild sweet flavor. Finish is really clean and after a moment, the hops show back up on your palate. Not my favorite style, yet a very fine beer! Hawksfan17 (718), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 11, 2007 10/11/2007: Sly Fox Pikeland Pilsner pours a vibrant pale yellow color and is quite lively. It is transparent with some light sediment in it. There is a generous level of carbonation and a picture perfect foamy white head that is rocky and never completely dissipates. The residual lacing is puffy and cloud-like and exists from top of the glass to bottom. The aroma is very Pils-like with the tell-tale pale/Pils maltiness with a nice handful of dried grassy and floral hoppiness. This beer is light and crisp with lots of grassy and spicy hop flavors, a moderate level of bitterness, and a touch of dryness in the finish. Overall this is a really good Pils that tastes great right out of the can. I’ve said this before, but I’ll say it again... I really wish that there were some tasty canned craft beers available in Ohio!

This is a very flavourful and tasty pils. Large lasting white head with a golden body. Gread, yeast and mild spiciness. I really liked this brew! Oakes (8172), Beyond the Great Firewall, China
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 16, 2007 Slightly hazy straw colour. Herbal, spicy nose with accents of bready malts. Crisp, rich grassy herbal hop character. Dry bitterness and fairly clean breezy malts. Nice, dry, herbal finish. Yum. Thanks John! mike mcneil (660), St Augustine, Florida, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 7, 2007 Pours out a straw yellow under a light but thick and frothy white head. Decent head retention and spotty lacing. Clean and pleasant aromas of lemon, straw and light malts along with a fairly hefty nose full of spicy/citrusy hops. Mouthfeel is average; light and clean with a minerally dry finish. Flavor starts out with a reserved lemon zest, honey and light sweet malty presence followed by a crisp and somewhat dry herbal and raw spice hoppy bitterness. Finish is long, refreshing and dry. Shows off a very nice balance between the sweet malts and herbal-like hops. Quite easy goin’ down and enjoying a few of these would be no problem . | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Sep 6, 2007 Updated: Oct 28, 2009On tap at Zeno’s - State College, PA. Pours a rather pale gold, with a rim of sparse white. Aroma is a dusty shelf of grain and light malt sugars, not particularly unique. Flavor starts with general pale malt sugars and then is abruptly whacked with a heavy apple skin suppression, very green. There comes some earthy and raw plant notes over the generally light malt. Surprised by how much some of these heavy grain, earth, and fruit off-flavors dominate the beer. They’re not distasteful, but they’re not in line with the style. Body tended thin to me. Ends nicely crisp and sharp. The beers drinks like water, which could be good or bad. Didn’t sense a real strong hop presence, just the parching dryness out the back end and some wafting brightness to aroma and flavor.
