Commercial Description:
This is a Smoked Imperial Porter, maybe the first ever made in this style. It is brewed with British Pale, British Chocolate, British Crystal and British Peat-smoked malts. It should be chocolately with hints of smoke and alcohol throughout.

Tap at blind tiger. Poured mahogany with no head. The nose was coffee and chocolate. Thinner front. But the middle had big roasted malts and coffee. Big nice bitter finish.

Mini-growler from Half-Time. Pours a deep dark black with a medium sized dense light tan head. A little boozy on the nose to start, but backed up with a lovely smoked malt presence. Thin to medium body, light sweetness, a touch of smoke, and again, the faintest touch of alcohol. Finishes with a good amount of smoke, a light bitterness, and again, more alcohol. Still pretty solid, and the alcohol presence doesn’t distract much.

Tap at Barcade. Deep brown beer with a thin tan head. Aroma is lightly sticky. Some chewy, fruity character. A bit of soft fruity, tobacco and an earthy character. Lots of tobacco and an interesting earthiness. There is a touch of light smoke but also a strange vegetal character that doesn’t really work for me.

Tap at Barcade. Roasty sweet, wet chocolate aroma, with some peanuty malt notes. Cocoa powder and an ugly, tar-y kind of curry flavor. No good. Not very porter like.

Tap at Barcade: Deep brown with a light tan ring of head. Porterish aroma, but it’s covered by lots of vanilla. Some smooth roast roast, almost coffeeish with dark crystal notes. Silky palate. Sweet for a porter- chocolaty with nutty with dark crystal and quite a bit of vanilla for a porter. It would be a solid amped up porter if it didn’t have that vanilla/maltose residual sugar character.
