puzzl (1719), New York, New York, USA Aug 9, 2008 Tap at Blind Tiger. Deep medium gold pour. Peaty, hammy, smoke aroma. Clean drinking with a liquid smoke flavor and light hops. Very easy going down. Not too rich in smoke but still a very solid effort. malrubius (416), USA Aug 3, 2008 On tap at Blind Tiger. Deep copper with with white head. Head didn’t last long, either becuase the glass wasn’t clean or the beer wasn’t perfectly fresh. Other than that, though, excellent smoky malty aroma. Nice smoky flavor with brown sugar caramel maltiness and smoky whiskey malt finish. Not very smoky but smoke is apparent throughout. Very slightly medicinal in finish, as smoky beers get when they age on tap. Medium body and carbo. Very tasty. Mes_and_Sim (4305), Highgate, Greater London, England Jun 29, 2008 A Sim rate (tap at Fette Sau): Not too smoky, which I was thankful for. Malty, but not too rauch. Looks like an amber or golden ale. It’s a bit bitter, sour, and almost amber ale-ish. CaptainCougar (4633), Rockville, Maryland, USA Nov 18, 2007 On tap at Fette Sau on 9/14/07: Pours a transparent copper orange with a thin, wispy-lacing white head. Aroma of lightly smoked swet caramel malt. Body starts fairly full and caramely malty sweet with a touch of earthy bittering hops. Fairly well-balanced and authentic. PilsnerPeter (1392), Flushing, New York, USA Oct 3, 2007 Tap at Barcade: Deep amber pour with a creamy tan head that fades. The aroma is mainly sweet, bready and toasted malts with only a hint of smoke. The smoke leans toward dried wood character. The body has loose carbonation, and a solid malt character. Has lots of bready sweetness and an underlying sourdough suggestion. The smoke comes through in the finish, and leans toward a wood flavor. This stuff has great malt depth and the style attempt was very well executed, but I just need more smoke!
