hazy amber, creamy off white head, smoked ham aroma, lots of smoked flavor balanced by rich caramel malt with only a hint of sweetness, nice light bitter finish, all smoke with nothing much else besides balance going on, but the smoke is very well done

fiulijn (5300), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy Jul 24, 2007 Draught at Ginger Man, 36th NYC Dark amber color; creamy head. The aroma has some salame smokeyness (strange). Good malty body, sweet, with sweet caramel and nice, light smoked. Pleasant. Rastacouere (5106), Saint-Lambert, Quebec, Canada Oct 10, 2005 Clear orange, the off-white head is quite small and mostly lasting. Fresh cerealic malt offers nice caramel scents that accentuates the pecan nuttiness among which potent leather is the main shape taken by the smoked malts. Figgy, floral and sweet earthy nature. Medium bodied, rather slick, gentle carbonation, almost no bitterness. CaptainCougar (4476), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin and Atlanta, Georgia, USA Nov 18, 2007 On tap at Fette Sau on 9/14/07: Pours a transparent copper orange with a thin, wispy-lacing white head. Aroma of lightly smoked swet caramel malt. Body starts fairly full and caramely malty sweet with a touch of earthy bittering hops. Fairly well-balanced and authentic. muzzlehatch (4405), Richmond, Vermont, USA Feb 18, 2006 Draught sample at EBF 2006. What better way to end a festival than one of my favorite stand-out beer styles? And what better way to jolt a jaded, flaccid palate than with a heavy dose of smoke? This didn’t disappoint...pours amber-copper with very little (though lasting) head and a touch of lacing...lots of thick, smoky, meaty sausage character in the nose, no real hoppy-bitter qualities but that’s ok, we’re going for BBQ!.....the body is quite sweet, fruity but still plenty of crusty smoking goodness is evident and the amber ale (I’d assume) base is up to snuff, toasty and reasonably full in the middle, though the finish dries and thins out a bit too much and there’s a hint of cardboardiness at the very end. Very nice though and rare as it is for me to get a new beer in this style, I bid adieu to EBF and shout, Bravo!
