A Belgian style Saison (or Farmhouse Ale) brewed with a blend of British Pale and German Pils malt and hopped with East Kent Goldings. Fermented with a special proprietary yeast which imparts its dry, spicy character. Golden orange in color.

US breweries are starting to out-belgian belgium. An amazing number of good to great belgian style beers being made in the US. Sly fox’s saison is a winner. Even at the end of a pretty good drinking session this beer came through fresh, lively and spicy. A nice finish to the evening. (Thanks Pete)

RBSG 2006 Grand Tasting. Clear deep golden with a white head. Caramel and grassy hops in the nose. Flavor has notes of pale brewing malt, grass, honey, hay, spiciness and some caramel. Medium body with a dry, spritzy mouthfeel. Enjoyable stuff.

Sampled at RBSG06. Slightly hazy amber color with a large frothy off-white head. Aroma of sweet grain and light honey. Flavor of dark malt and grain.

Cloudy, white grapefruit color with a fading, sudsy white head. Aroma of barnyard, spicy coriander, citrus, and some distant sulfur. Flavor is moderately sweet with some nice tartness, medium bitterness, and a semi-dry finish. A fairly tantalizing saison with some depth. Refreshing and interesting.

Remarkable, bright golden body with an enormous white head that leaves crazy sheets of lace up and down sides of the glass. An interesting, sweet and slightly tart aroma. Residual sugars provide sweetness, loads of fruity esters reveal pineapple, mango and banana. Some oranges and lemon zest add citric fruitiness. Dry sawdust shows some funkiness and a unique elements. Some pale malt and light grains show some malty depth that is complemented by dry biscuits and fresh dough. The body is fairly moderate with soft carbonation prickling the tongue from time to time. The flavor shows some fruity sweetness up front, but later the lively yeast, moderate hops and mild alcohol take over and show how dry this beer really is. The perceived sweetness is shortlived but unfortunately takes away from my overall enjoyment. While it’s pretty tasty, I was hoping for a little more.

750 ml. bottle. Pours a cloudy yellowish color with an extremely thick white head that diminishes rather quickly. Aroma is of lemon citrus, fresh yeast and hops. Taste is slightly sour, lemony and yeasty with hops present. Very carbonated and could easily pass as a good pilsner. Very good !!

A nice idea of the farmhouse beer style, but it is not meaty, if that’s what you like in your saison. Simple, and mildly malted. Delicate floral notes, as well as gentle, and sweet fruits. Not too sweet, nor is it too malty. Some citrus in the flavor leads to a slightly bitter, dryish finish.

Poured a golden yellow color with amber hues. The head was initially outstanding and laced while subsiding before even drinking. Great lacing was observable during the whole drink and remained at least until the waitress took my glass. The aroma was sweet and floral. The flavor was sweet and malty (some caramel-like and very light grassy flavors), but had a light bitterness underneath - almost like a tripel. The finish was accented by a hop flavor (American?) that wasn’t typical of the style. Intersting, but a bit a bit odd. Mouthfeel was a little thick but not overly carbonated. A nice beer, but inferior to Hennepin if you’re looking for something that is good but on the border of the style.

Poured a very effervescent hazy golden yellow. Nice large white head. Yeasty aroma that was lightly spiced. The aroma had sweetness with light citrusy notes. The flavor was malty, sweet and yeasty. Nice acidity in the middle. Fruity finish becomes semi-dry. Light body.

Bottled. This was a nice surprise, and Ernest is right; the similarities between this Saison and Saison Dupont are striking! Beer was a hazy medium-gold color with a small, frothy, white, mostly lasting head. The aroma was malty with a moderate amount of toasted grain, cookie and caramel; hoppy with a light note of lemon, pepper and moderate notes of herb and clean, dry straw; yeasty with light-to-moderate notes of dough and basement; light spicy alchs. The flavor was moderately sweet, lightly acidic and moderately bitter with an average-length, lightly-to-moderately sweet, lightly bitter finish. The body was light-to-medium, the texture was watery-to-velvety and the carbonation was lively. Moderate alcoholic warmth to the finish was a nice little bow on the package.
