3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Thanks to footbalm for the trade. Pours a beautiful golden brown with a nice white head. WoW, what a mouthfull. Very carbinated and dry were my first impressions. Has a bitter, zesty taste. Notes of lemon and grapefruit. Not sure what else to get out of it really. This is my first Saison. Not to bad. I guess I will just have to try some more to appreciate it more.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Pours a beautiful golden straw yellow with a slight haze and a nice fluffy long lasting head and kickass lace. When it is cold, the aroma is almost no-existant, but when it warms it actually becomes very nice and is remarkably similar to a traditional saison like Dupont. Must be the exact dupont strain. Aroma is the traditional saison character- slightly salty, leather, sweet malt and spicy phenols, that get very powerful as it reaches cellar temps. Flavor is nice and phenolic, spicy light pepper, clove, more leather and farmhouse notes, and moderately bitter. Finishes very smooth and very dry- exactly to style. This is a perfect American interpretation of a Belgain saison. The next bottle I get, I will have side-by-side with a dupont to see which is better. This is much much better than I expected. I have already decided that the next time I see a case of this, I will buy it.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottles from Doclock, hopdog.
Pours yelow with a huge lasting white head. Smells perfumey with flowers, some grass, sugar, and lemons as the most obvious. Tastes of wheat, coriander, some really nice rosey elements and a spicey finish. Reminded me of something Fantome would make. Many thanks for this one!

glossy golden yellow color, clear with tons of bubbles racing up the body. fairly thin pillowy tall white head. aroma is yeasty malt and funky citrus rind like kumquat. very high carbonation, the first bottle was a gusher. starts a bit dry and yeasty, but gets malty sweet like rock candy syrup. finish is back to dry and some white pepper. nice crowd pleaser.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: MAY 29, 2006 All hopped up on Goldings and ready for summer, Sly Fox put their own spin on this classic farmhouse style by adding a plentiful bitter finish courtesy of classic English hops. With a yeasty aroma and towering white head, this brew almost stings the tongue with tight active carbonation, and bop bitterness. Fruity and peppery throughout, this is a very American take on a very Belgian style.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle: Pale straw, very cloudy, brisk carbonation, large sudsy white head, clumpy lacing. Sweet citrus based yeasty nose, a hint of Tang. Both sweet and tart on the tongue, tangy, bready, but the citrus sweetness is a bit more subtle. Very light pepper. Moderate to full body and mouthfeel. Sweeter example, less floral, a bit more Tang like powdery flavor. I still enjoyed it. Thanks Steve for the bottle!

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
03.29.06 750ml bottle. Pale golden with medium but quick white head of large bubbles. Aroma is citrusy wheat with some weediness, little funk, rusty apples and pears. Flavor is a slow starter - up front it’s dry and tart and a bit on the sweet side, fruitier than expected, but as it lingers on the palate, the flavor explodes. Emerging spices are carried by simultaneously emerging eff as the palate’s warmth releases the beauty of this beer, fruits, light honey, floral yeastiness, and mild grasses. The flavor onslaught quickly yields to a quick dry finish. It’s a beer of transistions, which, I suppose, might be construed as complexity - maybe not. I think it’s worth socking a few of these away.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Decent sized, bright white head of fine bubbles. Good carbonation. Fruity and grassy aroma. Little bit of spices, pepper and lemon. Hazy bright golden orange. Fruity, grassy and a little spicey. Even a hint of smoke in there. Dry with a little tartness. Like biting into a very tart granny smith apple. Something is a little different in there. A little shaper and rougher than many saisons. Finish a tart again with some more apples. A decent saison but a little rough around the edges.
