A Belgian style Saison (or Farmhouse Ale) brewed with a blend of British Pale and German Pils malt and hopped with East Kent Goldings. Fermented with a special proprietary yeast which imparts its dry, spicy character. Golden orange in color.

Draught @ Brewery: Strong scent. Smells of cloves, pepper, and other spices. Medium orange in color. No head. No lacing. Tasted sour. Flavors of hops, yeast, pepper, and must. I did not like this (I don’t like the style), so it was hard to drink as far as I am concerned. At least it smelled good.

Draft at the Leigh Valley Brewfest in Easton, Pa. Nice smooth beer. Satrted sweet then had a dry spicey finish.

Tap, LV brewfest 04. Cloudy yellow, white head. Piney notes in the aroma. Flavor is hoppy and a little funky. Does not seem all that big.

Tap @ Sly Fox. Not quite clear, hazy yellow/gold. Good white head, and carbonation. Aroma was of sweet, raw bacon (the good farmer's market stuff), other unusual smells including mild, sweet wee wee. (Not negative though, I couldn’t stop sniffing it). Flavor is slightly sweet, tangy, spicey Belgian yeast with a full but mellow clove flavor. Mild hops. Malt flavor was well integrated into the spiciness. Nice, dry finish. Into the med bodied range. I usually avoid the more clovey beers but this was quite good..... Plagiarized: "Musty" is a good descriptive word for this brew.

UPDATED: OCT 1, 2004 On tap at The Sly Fox. Poured a light yellow with a smaller white head. Spicy, yeasty and citric (lemon) aromas and smells. Lightly sweet.

Draught @ Sly Fox: This one was a cloudy, lighter golden color. There wasn’t much head evident. The aroma contains many scents. It was somewhat spicy (mainly corriander). with some fruitiness coming through also(mainly citric and banana). Maybe musty also. A very well balanced taste. Yeasty, bready, spicy, all just in great proportions. A very nice beer.

TAR (2492) - Lafayette, Colorado, USA - AUG 7, 2004
UPDATED: MAR 12, 2013 bottle conditioned; one-and-a-half-year vintage: Yellowish gold. Sticky, fat and fluffy white head. Airy aroma touched with white grapes, peppery/leafy hops, perfume, toasted malt hulls, and leathery yeast. Fluffy, luxuriantly soft carbonation. Elegantly flavored with buttery herb notes and balancing soft malt sweetness. Lots of musty and chalky traits from the vibrant Dupont yeast. Assertively hoppy and juicy finish underlain with soft citrus, moss, honeydew, and bready malt flavors. A brilliantly executed Saison stamped with that unmistakable Dupont house yeast signature. After trying this version, I wonder why he even bothers to keg this stuff. Bottle-conditioning this is the only way to go.

on draft at the brewery. Cloudy blonde with medium head. Spicy coriander and clove with some bitterness. Smooth, decent. However something seems off, maybe something is lacking.

Looks quite weissy, bright hazy gold. Nose is sweet, a bit tart and sour. Starts quite saison, funky and yeasty, but the flavor vanishes in dryness. Has an odd, cloying tartness, but then has a nice aftertaste. Odd.

Eric says the aged version of this beer is fantastic. All I can say is that they oughtn’t to put it out till it’s aged. Aroma: pears, yeast, honey-sweetness, white pepper, some lemon. Taste: peppers, alcohol, hot dogs, spice, finish is chalky, aftertaste metallic--eek! If there were a ghost on this label, it would have iron teeth and be breathing hot spicy flames. Let it age till the taste matches the aroma. Let it age!
