roan22 (1), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA does not count Jan 24, 2007 on tap at Sly Fox Phoenixville 12-8. Fresh for the IPA night. Can they please bottle this, its superb piney and citrus taste is really beautiful to the palate. It is refined and distinctive without being weak. If you love hoppy IPA’s, it doesn’t get any better than this beer! michael-pollack (1360), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 25, 2004 Updated: Jul 24, 2004Draught at the brewery: Smelled piney, hoppy, bitter, and a little citrusy. Apearance was dark amber color. Clear. Nice off white head which dissipated. Good lacing. Flavor was bitter piney hops. Strong, fresh, crisp flavor. Very tasty. A bit like the Cascade, but more pine. Very easy to drink. Could hardly stop myself. Overall, my favorite Anniversary IPA yet. Marc (471), Yokosuka, Japan Jul 25, 2004 Fat herbs, dark pine, carmel, mint, and anise in the nose. Thick oily whit head that stuck around for the whole glass on top of a deep amber body. Herthy, piney, herbal hops are think on the tounge with jsut enough biscuty malt to back it up. Herbs are a big player as it warms with touches of rosmary and more biscut/carmel malts. Bitterness sticks around for a long time, and works into a grassy biscut finish. Thanks to Egajdzis for this exellant IPA.
rhapsouldize (174), Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 24, 2004 Fruity, hoppy aroma. Amber in color with a white head that dissipates a bit too quickly. Hoppy, citrusy flavor with a slightly bitter aftertaste. The only IPA of theirs I’ve had, but I’ll definitely try more! TAR (1998), Boulder Co., Colorado, USA Jul 27, 2004 hand-bottled by egajdzis: Polished rufous. Tiny-bubbled light tan with excellent retention and sticky lace. Alluringly floral, piney hop aromas coupled with jellied malt and passionfruit. Tangy hedge leaves, graham, and toasted malt undertones. Super tight carbonation. Body is firm but juicy. Bold hop flavors quickly unleash their stinging bitterness, but are briefly softened by the juicier, more elegant hop components and subtle malt sweetness. Staunchly bitter hops regain steam and suck the saliva from the palate. Bitter mango skin and mint leaves broaden the bitterness and highlights the juicy hops. Puckering bitterness, like sucking on a raw hop cone. Finishes intensely spicy with a tight, drying piney bitterness, amid continual, well-extracted toasted malt subtleties. Brian did an awesome job in extracting every ounce of flavor from the Simcoe. Sure it isn’t overly complex, but that’s what what makes this so tasty and elegant.
