Cask Conditioned at The Anchor, Sidmouth. Red bronzed beer with no head, no matter how much the rather pretty bargirl tried! Not Smiles best I'm afraid, somewhat flat, lifeless and mouldy, ashy.

Cask 3 Judges. Aroma is bursting with caramel and toffee malts, also som green king apple character. Taste is similarly over malty caramel and toffee, raw apple sweetness and no hop character at all. Total caramel = overvented.

From the cask at the boring (yet CAMRA recommended) Old Oak in Sittingbourne. Celtic Bronze Ale colour with a nicotine stained head. Good malty base with an aged-fruit sweetness, dripping with exotic promise. A late zingy hoppiness like the after shock of an orgasm. Smiles all round, and polite county cricket applause.

UPDATED: MAY 17, 2005 From bottle - Nice looking - clear golden brown, with a nice sized white head. Sourish aroma. Bready, toasty flavor, with a mellow but persistant hop bite. Enjoyable, once you get past the aroma.

Tried in bottle form perhaps the cask version is more inspiring.Slight head and no dominating taste apart from a slight bitterness.Whilst not a bad drink it has nothing that makes it stand out.

Bottle, from Rythym & Booze in Brigg. Amber bronze with thin but lasting creamy white head and gentle condition. Pleasant caramel, digestive biscuits and good solid English hops in the nose, chalky sweet yeast and fuggles? In the mouth with the caramel more muted. Finish is dry and chalky with some sweetness coming through at the end. Typical English bitter
