Monticello, Fl - JP’s Shell Station - 16 oz can. Pours a dark golden, quickly diminishing white head. Aroma has some artificial apple accents - not unpleasant - just not natural. Flavor is the same way, some "apple" flavor, not sour, more sweet, No real tartness. Mouthfeel is thick enough.

Clear light hay hue, nose of sugary apples. Flavor of sugary apples and...that’s about it. It’s like woodchuck. Just sugary and slightly boozy apple juice.

Pint can dated jun2016 into a chalice.
A: Sweet apples and alcohol. Like Boone’s farm.
S: Pours clear pinkish orange the color of gasoline. Big popping bubbles.
T: Tart first note with the full apple sweetness rounding out the flavor. Not as boozy as I expected.
M: Slightly more fizzy than it looks. Carbonation works well with the taste. Medium heft.
O: Not bad at all but still just a bit too much sweetness as I prefer dry cider.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pours clear golden color with some effervescence, and a 1/2-finger off-white head. Aroma of apples with a touch of sourness. Body is a touch lighter than medium, lightly syrupy. It has a light fizziness that lingers in the finish. Stereotypical flavor, but very "clean" for lack of a better way to put it. A bit of cidery tartness mixed with apples.

12-ounce cans in a pint glass. A bit sweeter than other ciders I have had, but rather sour as well. Not bad, but not as good as Crispin Honey Crisp.

Pounder: Apple juice nose. Clear amber, no visible carbonation. Sweet, apple juice. Finishes drier. Full body, moderate carbonation. No nuance, just fizzy apple juice that gets you drunk. Completely not fancy, but still enjoyable in a way.

Not my style but it was what I expected from one of the largest beer companies in the world. Distinct mineral character typically associated with hard cider made from concentrate. The sweetness made it appear to be trying too hard to taste like apple. That being said, this cider will appeal to a younger consumer who’s just getting into this beverage category. The reality is that Smith & Forge will be a big reason for the cider industry’s future growth. They have an approachable gateway product but consumers will quickly learn that there are many others out there.
