I liked the overall taste and palate of this beer. It wasn’t as smooth as some other beers but far better than most.

2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Huge tan foamy head. Transparent deep ruby body. Light bodied beer, sweet, soft carbonation. Sessionable. Minimal hop presence. Caramel on the nose and some toffee as well. A roasty quiality in the aroma I can’t quite place.

Ok tasting common beer. Nothing special but not a bad beer.

One of my favorites. Nice taste not bitter. Good red color. Not dry like some ales leaves a nice feel in your mouth.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: MAR 7, 2015 Aroma: Caramel tea biscuits with light tobacco. Appearance: Dark copper pour with a foamy tan head that settles into a skin. Flavor: Tobacco and wood up front with a healthy biscuit presence; the finish is semi-dry. Palate: Medium body, creamy texture, flat carbonation, abrupt finish. Overall: Super clean, and chuggable; perhaps the perfect go-to beer in the world of faux Irish pubs. Speaking of which... was in Cleveland on October 5th, 2007 on a choir trip. We (some members of the choir) happened upon some hole in the wall seafood bar, looking for a late dinner + drinks. This also happened to be the night the Yankees and Indians were playing in the ALDS (the night the locusts swarmed the Yankees, and the Indians won in 11). We drank a ton of Smithwicks and ate mussels all night without paying a dime, all thanks to the friendly denizens of Cleveland. I’ll always associate this beer with that night.

An Irish red, but not a very good one. Pretty watery, the best about it is its color. Classic label, though, rather nice.

UPDATED: MAR 2, 2015 Clear, dark pouring & easy drinking ale with a very smooth texture & taste. Love the little bit of roast & that familiar british bitter creamy aroma that’s comparable to a Boddington. This is one of those beers you can drink throughout the day or night, or keep in your fridge year round and never get tired of. Excellent drinkability & stays interesting. As a session / Pub beer, and that is what it is regardless of critiques about its lack of "wow" factor, I believe this is as good as it gets for me.
