Its rich, satisfying taste has earned it five gold medals in the famous Monde Selection Beer Tasting Competition. Smithwick’s is produced using the finest hops and special roasted, malted barley. In 1998 a new enhanced draught product with improved head retention was launched along with redesigned glassware.

Draught: Started nice with a rich thick head. Tasted of roasted malt and some nice hops. After a few more sips it started to leave a sickly sweet aftertaste. Adjuncts??

This is a good example of an Irish Red Ale, I found the flavor to be rich and full of malt and some fruit. It also has a nice copper color. I would drink this again.

Pours a dark brown with a tan head, a slightly sweet taste with a bitterness at the end that sticks around a little too long for me. A decent beer, might get it again in the mix and match 6-packs Hy-Vee does.

Bottle from an Irish pub a little while ago. Aroma of sugar and some nuts. Dark brown with a tan pretty brown head. Some malt in the taste and some nut flavor with light sweetness. There is some light lingering bitterness in the end. It reminds me of a weaker Newcastle Brown Ale which is already not super strong .

Decent run of the mill stuff. Would have one at a party if it’s all they had. Otherwise, meh.

Pours a copper from the tap. Aroma of caramel additive, sweet maltiness with some slight acrid bitterness in the background. Meh. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I had it from the bottle this time. It’s crisp and carbonated. The taste is dry malt with a hint of bitterness and caramel. For what it is, it’s not bad. It’s sessionable and tasty enough.

4.5%abv. 500ml can. Pours a clear ruby/caramel with a one finger, eggshell head. Aroma has smooth notes of caramel, slight roast, dark fruits, bread, and traditional hops. Taste is balanced. Dry caramel, traditional hops, and a touch of roast and dark fruits at the end. Medium body and carbonation. Clean in the mouth with a dry finish. Overall tasty enough but not a show stopper.
