Can poured into a pint glass. Pours a dark amber with a thin white cap that leaves some lacing. Aroma of old hops, slight grains. Taste is bitter somewhat and not really sweet. Slight cereals in the flavors. Body is light but it doesn’t feel watery. Carbonation is spritzy. Not much to say here.

De belles couleurs et fraîche à la pression. Un peu frustré, par son goût qui est présent, certes mais un peu trop doux à mon goût !

14.7 oz can from Bert’s Better Beers
Pours a tawny copper color with a decent sized long lasting off white head that leaves decent lace on the glass. Smells a bit of sulfury mineral water with a bit of caramel and toffee aromas rounding out the nose. The flavor is rich and malty with a light sweet brown sugar and caramel offset with a hint of buttery bitter toffee and earthy mineral water. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a sweet lingering mouthfeel. Feels more like a macro lager than and Irish ale, but the richer darker malts keep me a little bit interested.

Bottle. Odd, but that’s what it is. 99p from Rhythm N’ Booze, Cleethorpes. Jelly red with a generous cream head going nowhere. Dough and rust nose with mineral streaks. Soft and papery with a (generally) inoffensive wet dough and aniseed character. Egg custard afters; fig, rust- all heavily watered of course. Basically tastes like a very dull old school English cask bitter- probably Bateman’s. OK.

2013/08/17 - Pours a clear red amber colour with a thin, off white head that lingers and laces nicely. Aroma is caramel, toffee and cereal. Taste is similar to nose, but very watery. Mouthfeel is thin/watery, with low carbonation and a drying finish. Very light, not enjoyable.

Bottle, from Rhythm & Booze, Barton upon Humber. Chestnut red, thin but lasting off white head and gentle condition. Delicate caramel and toffee sweetness in the nose with a slight roasted bitterness, soft and slightly caramel sweet in the mouth with a low chalky bitterness and faint flowery hop notes but developing a thin tinny note with a slight saltiness. finish is brief toffee and low bitter roasted notes.

Keg @ The Weir Lodge, Roosky
Dark amber, clear, dense white nitro head
Aroma - Slight malt, grains, little aroma
Taste - Hint of sweet malt, cardboard, very bland and boring, watery
Palate - Soft carb, thin body, water. Finish - hint of malt, papery bitter
Overall - Blander than John’s Smith Bitter, but not totally undrinkable. A very poor example of an Irish Ale - so so bland and dull.

A fizzy, non-controversial, lightly flavoured commercial brew. OK, but that’s all.

#2 - Something I always have when I’m in an O’Neill’s pub... easy to drink and light! However, nothing to really set it apart as a great beer...
