Smithwick’s Pale Ale is a quality beer with a fuller taste, craft brewed with 100% pale ale malt and aromatic hops.

Amber/Red brew with nice head. While it looks very good the aroma suggested otherwise. Some malt aromas but something off too and the taste followed that with some malt flavors with a bland and dry bitterness. Very thin body, about like drinking flavored water. Just not at all impressive or worth the import price tag.

Bottle. Clear golden beer with a large white head. Aroma is malty with notes of caramel, bread, herbs, hay and dried fruit. Flavor is fruity with notes of caramel, bread, herbs, hay and dried fruit. Well balanced.

4th April 2015: 500ml bottle at home. Poured into a UK pint sleeve. Light amber and clear, the head a full and deep white foam pillow. Malt lead to both the nose and taste, any sweetness is tempered by the hops which give a bitter and dry finish to each gulp (this isn’t a sipping beer, this is a gulper). I liked it, although it could have been thicker body wise.

On tap at Kells Bar, Slieve Russel Hotel, Ballyconnell. Pours copper coloured with a single finger white head. Aroma of light orange, caramel, toffee. Initial light malts, then caramel, toffee, a little woody, raisins, quite sweet in places, nice lingering bitterness. Nice.

Una birra chiara, aspetto anonimo. Aroma assente. Dovrebbero aver usato luppoli americani per questa birra ma traccia non ce n’è. Equilibrata. Industriale.

Pours a half finger of head on a clear golden body. The aroma is mild, dry grain. The taste is mild overall: honey and a little metallic bitterness. The texture is crisp and fizzy. Not that great.

Big offwhite head. Clear coppery body with light carbonation. Fruity resiny herbal aroma with caramelly notes. Surprisingly delicate and fresh. Dryish wooden toffee taste with papery sugary notes. Mid-bodied. Fizzy, prickling mouthfeel. Dryish herbal sugary wooden aftertaste with floral notes. Lingering bitterness. I didn’t expect much from this, but it’s actually quite delicate and nice. (0.5l bottle, from Meny Strømmen.)

14.9 oz can, part of a Guinness "soccer" variety pack. Not sure what the Red Stripe is doing in that collection. Anyway, this "pale ale" sure isn’t what Americans now consider a pale ale. Not that American rule the world. Anyway, this beer pours a very light golden color with very little head and lacing. The nose is a little sour, with some light malt and bread notes. The body is kinda smooth, but the flavors are, for the most part, bland. I get more bready and malty flavors than hops. It’s a drinkable and slightly enjoyable beer, but not one that I would hunt down with great anticipation of drinking again.
